Dems best Republicans in annual charity baseball game

Source: The Hill

Lawmakers shed their business attire and left partisan issues at the Capitol for a few hours on Thursday night as they took to the field for the annual Congressional Baseball Game.

Democrats defeated Republicans 21-5 in seven innings under clear skies at the annual charity game at Nationals Park in southeast Washington, D.C.

While those in attendance generally sorted themselves into red versus blue during the evening, the night was also marked by several moments of bipartisanship.

Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) received a standing ovation when he took to the field and set up at second base. The crowd went wild when the first ground ball of the game went straight to him and he took the Democratic player out.

However, due to gerrymandering, the GOP won 22-21. n/t Orsino Jun 2018 #11

Cedric Richmond from New Orleans, he and Scalise (and I) live within 5 miles of each other. Richmond was a college baseball pitcher. The GOP never had a chance.

The Democrats won the game in 2014 and 2010 and lost 13 and 63 seats to the repubs those years.

The repubs won the game in 2006 and the Democrats picked up 37 seats that year.
