Diaper Sales Down in the US, Americans Having Fewer Babies
Source: CNN Money
(CNN Money) Americas birth rate is at its lowest level in three decades. Thats a problem for Pampers and Huggies.
Birth rates began dropping in 2008 as the economy sank into a recession. Better access to contraceptives and younger Americans having children later in their lives have extended the decline, the National Center for Health Statistics found.
The downturn caused disposable diaper and training pant sales to fall almost 6% from April 2017 to 2018, according to Nielsens most recent brick-and-mortar retail scanner data.
This new reality is beginning to take a substantial toll, said Svetlana Uduslivaia, the head of industry research at Euromonitor International. The diaper slump will probably be the normal for the foreseeable future.

(21,636 posts)It's at its lowest level not "in 30 years" - but on record (although still high in absolute numbers).
If births fell 6% last year, as the article suggests, it would put the birth rate at 11.4 per 1,000 - a rate similar to France's.

This is NOT with college fees too.

(19,201 posts)that seems like a lowball estimate to me. I would have thought it more, but who can argue with Trump's Department of Agriculture?

(19,201 posts)You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
I know I'd think twice, perhaps three times, before bringing a child into this world. Human beings are a doomed species.

(1,576 posts)To bring a child into this this grim world we live in currently.
I know each generation has its own crises to deal with, but with
What is happening now, I'd think twice about subjecting my child
To such a fate. Of course, I am 70 years old, and way past the desire
To have kids now.

Even if my kids have a white mom, they'll probably still be deported the way things are going.
