Rudy Giuliani says Mueller probe 'might get cleaned up' with 'presidential pardons' in light of Paul Manafort going to jail

In one of his most forceful attacks on the special counsel yet, Rudy Giuliani on Friday claimed the Russia investigation could get "cleaned up" with pardons from President Trump in light Paul Manafort being sent to jail.
"When the whole thing is over, things might get cleaned up with some presidential pardons," the former New York mayor told the Daily News.
Giuliani's stunning remark came hours after a Washington, D.C., judge revoked Manafort's bail and ordered him to remain behind bars while awaiting his September trial on charges relating to his shady pro-Russian business dealings in Ukraine. The ruling came after Robert Mueller's investigators alleged Manafort had attempted to tamper with witnesses in the Russia investigation.
Giuliani, who worked as a federal prosecutor for nearly a decade, claimed he had seen no evidence to warrant Manafort being sent to jail.

UPDATE
Giuliani walks back promise of pardons after Russia probe -- but claims Trump still has 'the power to do it'

Rudy Giuliani has reportedly walked-back his claim that President Trump will clean up his former campaign manager's legal troubles with pardons, says CNN's Geoff Bennett.
Giuliani had told the New York Daily News that the Mueller probe "might get cleaned up" by presidential pardons.
According to Bennett, Giuiliani has now told NBC's Kristen Welker that Trump "is not going to pardon anyone as far as I know and it would be against everybody's advice, including my own."
Welker did not tweet the quote herself.

(1,216 posts)He should know a pardon can not be issued until actual conviction. Manafort & Cohen & Flynn have not been convicted yet, as far as I know.

(108,980 posts)Now, THEREFORE, I, GERALD R. FORD, President of the United States, pursuant to the pardon power conferred upon me by Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution, have granted and by these presents do grant a full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974.

(1,216 posts)So Rump can issue a blanket pardon to all who may have worked in the Trump campaign and may have colluded with Russia? That is BS if you ask me.

(34,136 posts)Flynn statement of offense
On December 1, 2017, special counsel Robert Mueller agreed to a plea bargain where Flynn pleaded guilty to "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the FBI regarding conversations with Russia's ambassador. Specifically, Flynn is accused of falsely claiming that he had not asked Russia's ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak on December 29, 2016, "to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the United States had imposed against Russia that same day."[122] Flynn pleaded guilty the same day and acknowledged that he was cooperating with the investigation by Mueller.[123] Flynn stated;[124]
It has been extraordinarily painful to endure these many months of false accusations of "treason" and other outrageous acts....Such false accusations are contrary to everything I have ever done and stood for. But I recognize that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right.
As part of Flynn's plea negotiations, his son, Michael G. Flynn, is not expected to be charged.[125] As of January 31, 2018, Flynn had not been sentenced.[126]
Bloomberg reporter Eli Lake wrote in an opinion piece on December 1, 2017, that two former Trump transition team officials provided information indicating that Jared Kushner was the senior member of the team described in Flynn's plea documents as having directed Flynn to contact officials from foreign governments, including Russia, asking them to delay or vote against a United Nations resolution on the issue of Israeli settlements, contrary to the still-incumbent Obama administration's position of support for the resolution.[127][128] This was also confirmed by other news outlets, who cited multiple sources.[129][130]

(1,216 posts)to receive a pardon by the president. I have not seen any news of Flynn being incarcerated. If he is not in prison, no need for a rush job to pardon?
csziggy
(34,136 posts)I'm not sure if that is because he is still a cooperating witness or if it is part of the plea deal.
You'd think if Dolt45 was going to pardon Flynn he would have by now so I doubt a pardon will be forthcoming.

that a blanket pardon will be issued for all affected by the Mueller investigation. The excuse will be the SC was improperly authorized by Rosenstein. My time line is after 2 more IG reports are published, and 2018 Nov election is out of the way.

(10,023 posts)So there is a big old illegal mess that put Trump in office that he, and the GOP, would like to see get cleaned up. If threats do not stop the investigation he will simply pardon every illegal action and actor.
Got it. And he just might get away with it.
Amazing that of all of the Republicans running for the nomination, Trump, the most clueless of the bunch, is the one that gets to destroy the country any way he pleases.
