(45,006 posts)The second rule, enacted in 2010, limits pension-investment advisers from making campaign donations to a governor running for federal office. That would have restricted powerhouse firms like Morgan Stanley, Lazard and Wellington Advisors from contributing, because they also do business with New Jersey.
Romney officials were wary of losing those potential donations...
So Mitt was more concerned about the donor money he wouldn't get than Christie's qualifications? And what, if anything, did Mitt promise Christie in the event that he DID lose? As they say in New Jersey, "Foo-kin-bee-YOO-ti-ful!"

Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)My guess would be that Ryan was no higher than about tenth on the list.

(30,151 posts)For Paul Ryan it's no biggie if he loses, he gets his name out there, keeps his seat, gains influence in his racist party...
For most other folks it's a losing proposition...They are like, Ummmm, I'll wait to 2016 when our chances are better LOL
Nobody picks a former loser to be on the ticket- That's what kind of confused me about everyone saying PALIN PALIN PALIN PALIN! would/could be on the ticket. I was like, face palm, what world of politics do you live in

(1,448 posts)of the public. How do I know this? I once had his problem, and friends and physicians convinced me to retire and focus on my problem. He will not be a hero to anyone, including his family, for dying extremely obese on the job.

(31,340 posts)Someday science will heartily confirm that - and hopefully offer some hope to those who struggle.

(95,337 posts)Christie was so excited about building the new casino, The Revel, and how it would create new jobs and boost Atlantic City.
So far it's a massive failure and close to filing bankerupcy.
Oh and Bruce was smart enough to schedule a tour stop on Labor Day in Philly to play in a city that embraces unions. Bruce still won't return Christie's phone calls.

(58,724 posts)Good story but bad source, as you noted.
Dread Pirate Roberts
(2,001 posts)but this source is pretty good. The story was written by Josh Margolin who used to be a statehouse reporter for the Newark Star-Ledger until they fired nearly every reporter they had. I don't know how he ended up at the Post other than he needed the job.

(58,724 posts)Could be legit then.
In any case, I don't think Christie would've been any better for the ticket in terms of their chances.
Personally, I see Obama winning comfortably.

(55,063 posts)that Mitt had to worry about the campaign cash from banks?
Seriously?

(8,004 posts)That people turned down Romney on VP. Why, candidates don't dip down into the House when there is another choice. Just as more well-known Republicans didn't want to run with Goldwater, forcing him to pluck William Miller out of the House. Similar with Mondale and now Romney.

(24,906 posts)That McCain picked Sarah Palin over Romney for VP. But then he got to see those tax returns, didn't he?

(45,006 posts)Palatucci declined to comment on whether Christie refused to step down as governor to join the Romney ticket, saying those questions are better directed at the Romney campaign.
On Fox News "Fox and Friends," a spokesman for the Romney campaign said he had just gotten off the phone with Christie, who denied the story. Senior Strategist Russ Schriefer said Christie "said it's totally not true."
A Christie source wouldn't know, and a Romney source would confess to such a thing? Uh-huh...
