(17,574 posts)One of the most touching moments came in the 1980s on WCBS-FM, when he was telling about a letter he received when he was on WABC. He explained it was from a young girl and read what she wrote to him. It ended with her saying that she was standing on a bridge with her only possession, a transistor radio. "You made me laugh and I didn't jump," he read to the audience. Then he gave a choked-up reaction: "That made it all worth while."

Really upbeat guy and a whiz with the words on the radio!
Condolences to the Ingrams on their loss.

(17,574 posts)I scolded the on air talent all the time for doing it.
That said -- Ingram had a knack for doing it well. He had the touch.

(2,470 posts)There was a clip of Dan Ingram played in a training class I had about phase and electricity. They played a clip of WABC going slowly off the air during the big blackout in the 60s. Also I believe Cousin Brucie played one of the most awesome practical jokes by handing Dan Ingram a weather report that said there was a chance of brief showers and then they started throwing underwear into the studio
