President Donald Trump had a simple message for Senate Republicans during a meeting at the White House on Tuesday: Kill the filibuster now, before Chuck Schumer and the Democrats do.

Trump told more than 15 House and Senate GOP appropriators that Schumer, the Senate minority leader, would get rid of the legislative filibuster if Democrats took over the chamber in November. According to several lawmakers, Trump suggested that a mutual friend he shares with Schumer heard this from the New York Democrat and then passed the tidbit onto the president.

In Trump’s view, Senate filibusters should take place only when a senator stands up and holds the floor. Trump mentioned “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” the 1939 movie in which Jimmy Stewart’s character, Jefferson Smith, stages a filibuster until a corrupt Senate leader is exposed, as an example of how the process should operate.

Trump — ecstatic over the Supreme Court ruling Tuesday affirming his travel ban — also pushed hard for a boost in funding for his controversial border wall. Trump wants $5 billion for the wall this year. So far, the House and Senate Appropriations panels have budgeted a fraction of that amount, and Democratic senators are dug in against supplying more than the $1.6 billion the White House initially requested.

I've never heard of helium being used to preserve documents, so this was a new fact for me (you're never too old to learn something new). I looked it up and found an interesting fact: Despite being sealed in inert helium, the document began developing white spots. Using laser spectroscopy the conservators determined the inert helium was still present. Looking at historical weather data, however, revealed that on the day the container was sealed the relative humidity in Washington was exceptionally high, and inside the casement there was more than twice the level of moisture needed to preserve the document.

Scientists discovered that the white spots were alkaline chemicals that were pulled out of the glass because of the presence of high levels of water vapor.

The Constitution was placed in a new encasement and is currently on display at the National Archives in Washington, DC.

I live near the area, and when I went in and saw the documents, it's does make you humble, for the fact that a group of men sat down and wrote discussed and had their plan put forth on that paper, and the man assigned to do this.........................

On the other hand....................there is a asshole sitting in the white house, who has no clue, and his cronies in the supreme court and the leadership in the fascist republican party are destroying the document and the bill of rights which is also encased in helium and using it as toilet paper....................
