Loaded gun found atop baby changing table at Utah aquarium

Source: Associated Press

Updated 9:52 am CDT, Wednesday, July 11, 2018

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah police are searching for the owner of a loaded gun left behind on a baby changing table in a women's restroom at a suburban Salt Lake City aquarium.

Authorities said Tuesday they don't plan to file criminal charges against the gun's owner. Draper Police Lt. Chad Carpenter says they want to find out how the .380-caliber pistol was left behind and return it.

Carpenter tells the Deseret News that it's not uncommon for people to leave weapons behind in bathrooms and other places.

Alyssa Fujimoto she found the weapon when she tried to change her newborn baby with her 4-year-old son in tow at the Living Planet Aquarium, which doesn't allow weapons.

5. I'd guess it takes more than a few hours to run the appropriate series of checks.

I'd guess it takes more than a few hours from initially finding the firearm to running the appropriate series of checks and getting a valid hit.

You'd think with the paranoia and whatever else that would cause one to feel the need to have a weapon with them at all times in public places they would be more attached to it than their phones and like, not just leave it laying around somewhere.

12. I'm thinking alcohol plays a factor in this.

Alcohol has a tendency to make you forget the locations of important objects, like the assault weapon you left in a public restroom.

9. In most states, one doesn't need to "justify" carrying a gun.

"Justification" is one of the criteria in only a few states. We can also drive, and cross state lines, without getting our justification approved.

13. A well balanced person wouldn't be carrying a gun. An unbalanced person is someone who shouldn't.

If one thinks he/she will be shot if he/she goes somewhere, he/she should avoid going there.

15. When I had to carry a gun in the military and private security it was such a hassle.

I don't understand the attraction that some people have to carrying a gun. It is a pain in the ass.

16. Well, if you're going to forget either the baby or the gun, I guess this is the way to go.

We'll find the culprit, probably with the baby stuffed into a holster.
