President Donald Trump's strategy of becoming aggressively involved in the midterm elections is prompting concern among some Republicans who worry he's complicating the political calculus for GOP candidates trying to outrun his popularity.
Those Republicans worry their statewide candidates may rise or fall based on Trump's standing, muddling their path to maintain control of Congress. But Trump has no plans to step out of the spotlight. He will hold a rally Saturday in Ohio and plans to host two fundraisers at the Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, New Jersey, next week for House and Senate candidates, according to a campaign official with knowledge of the president's events. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss details about the fundraisers that haven't yet been publicly released.
The president is casting himself as the star of the midterms, eagerly inserting himself into hotly contested primaries, headlining rallies in pivotal swing states and increasing his fundraising efforts for Republicans. Last week, Trump agreed to donate a portion of his reelection fund to 100 GOP candidates running in competitive House and Senate races.
He's expected to be even more aggressive in the fall. White House officials say he's reserving time on his schedule for midterm travel and fundraising likely to surpass that of former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

(9,426 posts)is being used to pay Don Jr.'s lawyer fees. He had better hold onto that, because (please God) Jr. will have to hire more lawyers to keep his ugly entitled arse out of prison. Who pays these ill-bred screaming "fans" who attend his rallies? Someone said they are paid $100 which must be spent on tRump memorabilia at the concession stands!! I'd rather STARVE than attend one of these vile, low-class, racist rallies.

(18,641 posts)Hitching one's wagon to Trump's political steamroller comes with some risk. If it goes off the cliff before November, it may be too late to disengage before suffering the same fate.
Then again, there are republicans who believe the head lemming knows what's best for all.

(12,591 posts)1. This is how Donnie Two Scoops thinks: If he spends more time on the road and raises more money than his predecessors then he's a winner, and more importantly, they're losers.
2. The more time he spends on the road and holding "It's All About ME!" rallies and playing golf, the better off the country will be. The unprecedented show of the leaders of the DNI, NSA, CIA, FBI, and other intelligence agencies at the WH last week was to reassure the country that the adults are in charge of protecting our election process, even if it means working around the man-child who sits in the Oval Office playing "Risk" using real world pieces.
3. The more IQ45 is away from the WH, the more time he has to tweet. The more he tweets, the more motivated the Dems will be to work to GOTV and neuter the Orange One by taking over the House.

Remember the 2016 Republican convention? Where was W Bush?
They elect the absolute worst, then later on, bury them like a cat burying a turd.
