Former Senate colleague Hillary Clinton spoke with Chuck Todd about the late Senator John McCain on Meet the Press this morning, sharing her memories of a friend and opponent after his passing on Saturday.

“He will be missed for many, many reasons, Chuck,” said Clinton. “But I think that example that he set of working across the aisle, but more than that working to bring people together around the world, is one we should remember.”

During the interview, Todd emphasizes the “timing” of Sen. McCain’s death in the larger picture of American politics, clearly referring to the Trump presidency. “Let me quote him and say, let’s have a little straight talk, the timing of his death, in this moment that we’re in in our politics” said Todd. “There’s a reason I think that Washington’s taking an extra stomach punch this morning, the vacuum he leaves. The timing– we can’t ignore this moment that he’s leaving us.”

“You’re absolutely right,” agreed Clinton. “He understood that we’ve been through perilous times before at home and abroad, but our institutions are being severely test right now, including his beloved Senate, and he was in every way he knew how trying to sound the alarm.” Clinton said that if America abandons the ideals it “would be giving up on what he fought for, what he was imprisoned for, what he stood for.”

today. We can transcend party lines, the other party not so much. Let's crush hate at the ballot box.

"Putin is not America's friend, nor merely a competitor. Putin is America's enemy — not because we wish it so, but because he has chosen to be."

for now. But, after the funeral, I think his rascist, warmonger, anti-Supreme Court sensibility, Rethug past, etc. etc. is fair game... or do we just forget all the lies, death, and destruction he's responsible for? My apologies if it's still too early to even ask that question. I only ask because you consider McCain a "decent Republican"... sorry, no such thing in my book.

Sen. McCain voted to save the ACA for millions of Americans. I cherish that vote.

He was in favor of repeal in congress but he wasn't running for President after it was in place. He ran before it existed.

and the Wall Street disasters... shall I go on? But, hey, let's leave that for another day... after McCain''s funeral. My point is let's stop lionizing the guy. That's all.

15. Yes, Sen. McCain gets credit for that... unfortunately, it's a bit of a hollow victory since

the Dickhead-in-Chief eliminated by Executive Order the lynch-pin of the ACA, the mandate, along with the tax penalty, which, I'm afraid will be it's undoing, unless the ACA can be kept on life support and restored to its original glory by the stroke of pen by a Democrat elected President in 2020. That, of course, only becomes essential if Medicare for all doesn't eventually become the law of the land (let's hope!)

such as blocking the repeal of the ACA. But overall he was a war mongering globalist and that needs to pointed out.
