President Trump on Monday ordered the Justice Department to declassify significant materials from the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, threatening to spur a showdown with federal law enforcement officials resistant to publicizing information from an ongoing probe.
In a statement, the White House said Trump was ordering the department to immediately declassify portions of the secret court order to monitor former campaign adviser Carter Page, along with all interviews conducted as officials applied for that authority.
Trump also instructed the department to publicly release the unredacted text messages of several former high-level Justice Department and FBI officials, including former FBI director James B. Comey and deputy director Andrew McCabe.
For months, conservative lawmakers have been calling on the department to release Russia-related and other materials, many of them accusing law enforcement of hiding information that might discredit the investigation now led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III.

(3,307 posts)... to the Russians. This was a worry a few months ago, one of the most important things that needed to be kept confidential/top secret. So Trump and Thune and Rand Paul, after their visits to Russia, were finally convinced this needed to be shared with Putin.

(20,591 posts)for Jeff Sessions to tell Donnie Trump to go stick it where the sun don't shine. Of course Sessions won't do that, because he's still trying to please Trump, for some unknown ridiculous reason.
But Jeff, here's your big chance! Tell Trump the Justice Department isn't his personal revenge tool, and he'll have to find some other way to prove Carter Page wasn't recruited by Russians (if indeed that's Trump's bone of contention here). The FBI had every reason to investigate Page, and they did everything by the legal book.

(5,829 posts)Quite a corrupt notion that DOJ/Mueller should not take any action regarding indictments (even though none of targets or subjects of his probe are running for office) until after election because that could sway public opinion but Trump and his Congressional enablers can release all of these DOJ documents related to Russia investigation right before election in order to launch an effort to sway public opinion.
Unprecedented and outrageous to order a massive release of classified info. with purpose of giving Trump cover and distraction by providing fodder for Repubs to spin false narratives. Nunes has clearly stated that their intention in the release is to make accusations against Democrats before election.
