MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin told U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton on Tuesday he would like to hold new talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, suggesting they meet in Paris next month.

Putin and Trump are expected to take part in an event in Paris on Nov. 11 to commemorate the end of World War One and Putin suggested they could meet on its sidelines, something Bolton said he believed Trump would look forward to.

Putin, speaking days after Trump said he wanted the United States to quit a landmark arms control treaty, also told Bolton that Russia was sometimes surprised by what he said were unprovoked action that Washington took against Moscow.

President Donald Trump will meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Paris sometime in November — National Security Adviser John Bolton confirmed to reporters on Tuesday. The meeting will be the second one-on-one between the two leaders.

Putin pressed for a meeting on Nov. 11, when both leaders are expected to be in Paris to attend an event commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War I.

“I think President Trump will look forward to seeing you in Paris on the sidelines of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Armistice,” Bolton told Putin in televised remarks.

Trump, of course, came under heavy criticism from nearly all corners following the joint press conference between the two world leaders at their first summit in Helsinki on July 16. The presser caused many normally ardent supporters and conservatives to shake their heads in disgust.
