NBC is getting grief over its decision to air an election ad from President Trump that focuses on the migrant caravan in Mexico.
The airing of the ad came around 7:30 p.m. PT on Sunday, about two hours into NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast in a game between the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots. It also comes a day after news surfaced that CNN had declined to air the spot, calling it "racist."
The ad focuses on the "7,000-migrant caravan" crossing Mexico that has been in the news ...............................
Scores of viewers immediately took to Twitter to call NBC out for its airing of the spot. Judd Apatow, for one, sent out a series of tweets and retweets.
"So @nbc and @Comcast aired that racist Trump caravan commercial during the football game. Who made that decision? How did they decide it was ok? I am disgusted that you would air that after @cnn refused to air it because it is explicitly racist. Shame on you. @NBCNews"................................

Even if NBC decided they were cool with making a few bucks on racism they should have rejected the ad based on factual inaccuracies

(20,475 posts)MSNBC is part of the NBC family. If we boycott MSNBC we're shooting ourselves in our collective feet. If there's someway to target NBC specifically, that would be alright, but I wouldn't want it to reflect on anything MSNBC is doing.

(7,142 posts)msnbc only puts a progressive slant on the corporate narrative. We had several msnbc anchors who veered from the corporate narrative; Phil Donahue, Keith Olberman, Uygur, Brashear, Harris/Perry, Ratigan, Ed Schultz all veered from the right wing narrative and all of them got canned. msnbc and CNN are not progressive channels. When I see people like Bill Press and Stephanie Miller and yes Thom Hartmann on msnbc as news anchors then I will agree that msnbc is progressive.

(7,142 posts)There are no progressive cable news networks. We have Fox (bad cop) and msnbc/CNN (good cop) pushing the same right wing narratives every damn day.

(7,382 posts)They can do the o PAC ads based on content be they are obligated to run candidate ads as provided and are not allowed to reject them based on content.
No question, its a vile lie filled piece of shit. It once a candidate puts the Im John Doe and I approve this ad statement in it, its off limits to the standards folks.
So, they have to run it. And they should have run it between disclaimers. This was dint recently somewhere else, forget where. IIRC it was a local station that did an intro.
They should have said here are some facts and then ran the bullchit.

NBC STATEMENT, June 30, 2015:
At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.
