It Was A Big, Blue Wave: Democrats Pick Up Most House Seats In A Generation

Source: NPR

Votes are still being counted in several House races. But the AP has now called another race in New Jersey, projecting Democrat Andy Kim the winner in the suburban Philadelphia 3rd Congressional District over incumbent Republican Tom MacArthur.

That means, more than a week after Election Day, Democrats have increased their House gains to a net of 34 seats — and, when all the vote is counted, they may get to 39.

Make no mistake: That is a very big wave.

How big? It's the most House seats gained by Democrats since the wave election following Watergate. President Richard Nixon resigned in August 1974, leading to Democrats' pickup of 49 seats that fall.

I live on the West Coast, I went home in a bad mood, afraid to watch any returns, so I just watched Christmas movies and checked my phone from time to time. They acted like it was such a disaster for Democrats.

I was out of the country on election night, and had to go to bed with not much information.

The first predictions of cable news that I could find online were making it out like Repugs would keep the House.

sake of ratings and cash as they always do...the biggest conflict of interest ever is how corporate media loses money wherever there is an election that is. Or close and no one spends ad money.

That is a huge story no one will cover, strangely.

It WAS a blue wave just as certainly as the earth is a globe...corporate media can not get around the math now as they did on election night...the total house gain most in 40 years apparently not enough to make a headline when it is Democrats celebrating victory.

But who the fuck cares...the math don't lie, Republican chairs will be filled by sane Democratic Party pants and dress and pantsuits by the dozens....nothing else matters.
