Republican Mia Love pulls ahead in Utah House race after Trump knocked her for losing
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)Two-term Republican Rep. Mia Love on Friday took the lead over her Democratic challenger in Utah's 4th District House race more than a week after election night and after President Donald Trump mocked her for losing.
Love leads Democrat Ben McAdams by 419 votes as of Friday evening, CNN results show, giving the congresswoman 50.1% of the vote -- a slim margin above McAdams at 49.9% as votes continue to be counted.
The shift in votes marks the first time Love has held a lead over McAdams since election night on November 6, when the race was deemed too close to call.
Despite the slim margin and the fact that votes were still being counted, Trump declared in a news conference the day after the election that Love had lost the race and attacked the congresswoman for not embracing him as a campaigner.

Moving on to UT-04, Rep. Mia Love (R) got some good news Friday, as she has moved into the lead in her race against Ben McAdams (D). She's now ahead by 419 votes out of 257,593, or 0.2%. This may come as a surprise to readers of this site, who know that provisional/absentee ballots tend to break Democratic, something that has been especially true this year. However, what they are counting in Utah right now are actually regular ballots, a process that has gone slowly as the Beehive State adapts to two newly-adopted policies: mail-in voting for everyone (in 27 of 29 counties), and same-day registration. Once that process is complete (94% have been counted so far), then the Utahns will move on to counting the provisional ballots. There are 34,000 of those, and it's likely they will break in McAdams' favor. So, even though he would certainly prefer to be in the lead, he's still in ok shape.

(34,857 posts)Love is going to win. They hadn't finished counting all the Utah County ballots and her lead has increased to over 1,000. McAdams would have to win the outstanding Salt Lake County votes by roughly 60% to win the election and he isn't doing that - he won the county by 54%. He's lost. Love has won.

(6,699 posts)"Earlier we mentioned the race for Utah's fourth congressional district, which has flipped again. Ben McAdams, the Democrat, has pulled ahead of Republican congresswoman Mia Love as McAdams received stronger than expected numbers out of Salt Lake County. McAdams leads Love by 739 votes out of more than 269,000 cast. Claiming victory last night, McAdams stated, we are confident there is no way Representative Love will retake the lead. Love has not conceded and McAdams said he hopes to speak with her today.

Vote will be close but it's good they're recounting. I wish Texas counted twice & counted provisional votes.
