Chuck Schumer offers trump 1.6 Billion for the wall

Source: Manu Raju, CNN

Sen. Chuck Schumer tells reporters at his on-cam presser that Democrats’ position is $1.6 billion for wall funding - far less than the $5 billion Trump wants - but he won’t say if Democrats are shutting the door on anything more, saying he’s not going to negotiate in public.

As part of a massive omnibus spending package on track to be approved, Congress is expected to approve just shy of $1.6 billion for border security, of which only $38 million can be spent on “border barrier planning and design.”

That was from 2017.

The bill has riders Dems want like dealing with the opioid crisis and arms control. A pittance is allotted for a "wall."

If you look at Raju's Wiki page, he interviews an awful lot of Republicans. Just sayin'... 😉

security on this. Security for what? There already is security.

What troubles me is a lot of journalists are either mis-quoting or taking things out of context.

The whole issue of the tear gas used against Houndurian migrants the other day is at trump's feet.

Migrants should processed IN THE U.S., not left in a no man's land waiting station in Mexico.

Unfortunately, that issue has been lost in the discussion

Whoops! Did I violate "the code"?

Or is he really "sometimes just an idiot", and can readers just take it at face value?

No, he's not the only one. We all act like idiots on occasion.

... So, after reading some of the other posts by DUers, I can see how Schumer is just playing tag. Others have pointed out that the offer has some legs and is nary a pimple on the monstrous budget. What I find offensive is that, at this time and place, Schumer's mention of anything relating to the border wall is an insensitive and emotionally evocative event that APPEARS to be a capitulation to Trumpy's madness, which is what nobody really needs to do. Trumpy is being exposed as a vacuous fraud time and again. There is no need to legitimize anything he proposes. He's in serious political trouble, and there shouldn't be anything happening from the Democratic side that lends him credibility.

Senator Schumer's "offer" seems so far outside of the Democratic wheelhouse that it makes me wonder if this is a trap or other machination.

Is the Senator setting up Trump?

By saying he offered money for the wall, he can blame Trump for not taking it.

I think it’s a weak argument, but i don’t think it costs us that much to try and make it.

It's a "strategic" move, and it's a move from a position of weakness. The worse part is with Dems controlling the House it's a move that didn't need to be made.
