The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Friday that Jennie-O Turkey is recalling more than 164,000 pounds of raw ground turkey products amid concerns of salmonella contamination.
The agency said the items that fall under the recall were produced on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23, and have freeze or use dates of either Nov. 12 or Nov. 13.
CNN reported that the recall announcement coincided with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting 52 new cases of illness tied to a recent salmonella outbreak. More than 200 people have gotten ill from the outbreak since the outbreak started in November 2017, and one death has been reported.
The CDC said there have been nearly two dozen illnesses in Canada connected to the same outbreak, according to CNN.

Did this used to happen years ago or is it a relatively new thing?
At least these days we have social media to inform people ... one good reason for social media, I guess.

(37,648 posts)I JUST made something w/ground turkey on Saturday, so I had a bit of a heart attack, since I've been known to buy Jennie-O. I still had the wrappers in the trash, and PHEW! It was the Honeysuckle brand. Thank goodness I bought higher quality this time. That explains why there was more meat left over after it was cooked.
