Trump wallows in his woes during Christmas Day talk with troops

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

In President Donald Trump's Christmas Day telling, the drugs are flowing over the border, the Federal Reserve is imperiling the economy and the Democrats are preparing to harass him with oversight requests.

"It's a disgrace, what's happening in our country," Trump fumed, seated behind the Resolute Desk on Tuesday, after decrying Democrats as hypocrites and recalling -- unprompted -- his firing of former FBI Director James Comey. "But other than that," he said, his hands gesturing outward, "I wish everybody a very merry Christmas."

If most Americans were taking a break from their workplace woes on Christmas morning, the President was wallowing in them, even as he worked to project a festive demeanor amid a partial government shutdown and troubling economic news.

Celebrating the holiday at the White House instead of his Palm Beach estate, Trump used a phone call session with American troops to advance his case for a border wall, his isolationist foreign policy views and his insistence that his campaign did not collude with Russia.

Respect the uniform or any officer including the CiC. Reagan spoke at Normandy. Didn't matter if you were a Republican or a Democrat you showed respect and he showed his respect also.

You don't even have to respect him as CiC. If you don't respect him, just keep your mouth shut. I was practicing with a Captain, she played the flute and I, Sp-5, played the piano. I don't remember what she said, but I said you are inscrutable. A 2nd lieutenant in the next room, told me to watch my language. People join for many reasons. I enjoyed being in the Army. I was planning on making it a career but unfortunately I developed some chemical imbalances in my brain and had to take an honorable discharge.

HONOLULU (AP) - President Barack Obama capped a quiet Christmas Saturday with a surprise visit to a Marine base to thank U.S. troops for the sacrifices they've made, including being away from their families at the holidays.

The president, along with his wife, Michelle Obama, spent more than an hour shaking hands and hugging service members who had arrived for Christmas dinner at the mess hall at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. It's the third year in a row the Obamas have visited the base on Christmas.

. . .

With U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other outposts around the world, the Obamas also used the president's weekly radio and Internet address to encourage Americans to find ways to support service members during the holiday season.

. . .

Mrs. Obama , who has made working with military families one of her top priorities as first lady, said Americans don't need to be experts in military life in order to give back to those who serve their country. She urged the public to reach out through their schools and churches, or volunteer with organizations that support military families.

"Anybody can send a care package or pre-paid calling card to the front lines, or give what's sometimes the most important gift of all: simply saying thank you," Mrs. Obama said.

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, spent Christmas in Washington, where they visited wounded soldiers and their families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

tRump is in "It's Good to be the King" heaven in Florida and considering he doesn't like being told what to do, I'm betting there were security concerns with the Secret Service over this trip, perhaps due to the shutdown.

Regardless, he's a self-serving, self-centered asshole and his spirit of Christmas is calculating how much money he'll make at his properties during our holiday season.

Everything with tRump and his kids is a transaction and they must see everything as a win.....

Have a good Christmas Day, everyone at DU!........ .......

After he told them all about how angry he was. Such Christmas spirit. I wonder which aid whispered "Psst, don't forget to say Merry Christmas" as he was about to hang up.

But at least we can all say Merry Christmas now!

Melania and son Barron flew up from Mar-a-Lago to be with Trump for Christmas.
Does he not consider them 'family'?

Military men and women all around the world serving in the U.S. armed forces,
and Trump's sitting in the White House,
whining about how bad he's having it.

He should have flown to Afghanistan.
