Bernie Sanders is getting ready for a second run for president.
WMUR has learned that an email announcing the Vermont senator's plans to run for president will be sent to his supporters on Tuesday.
A key Sanders supporter told WMUR that one of Sanders closest advisors informed the supporter that the announcement will be made in an email. It was not made clear to the supporter whether it will be an outright announcement of a candidacy or an announcement of an exploratory committee.
The Hill on Saturday, citing two people familiar with the plan, reported that an announcement of an exploratory would be made this week. Politico reported on Saturday that Sanders has recorded a video in which he says he is running for president.

(17,837 posts)Can you think of any Democratic candidate who has a better chance at attracting Trump voters than Bernie Sanders?
Trump has pretty much stolen Bernie's trade platform. And, like Trump, he has Glenn Greenwald's seal of approval.

(17,837 posts)Also, given that he is not a Democrat, he can actually triangulate and can take his usual harder line on immigration while still looking moderate compared to Trump, which will allow him to appeal to the white working class. Plus, he has spent a lot of his political career blaming Mexico for the U.S.'s problems whether it is due to NAFTA or immigration, so he can burnish his populist appeal.

(17,837 posts)For example, I bet you did not know this, but AOC's pro-immigrant views actually make her a neoliberal advocate of Koch supported immigration policies as Bernie spells out his views:

You said being a democratic socialist means a more international view. I think if you take global poverty that seriously, it leads you to conclusions that in the US are considered out of political bounds. Things like sharply raising the level of immigration we permit, even up to a level of open borders. About sharply increasing ...
Bernie Sanders
Open borders? No, that's a Koch brothers proposal.
Ezra Klein
Really?
Bernie Sanders
Of course. That's a right-wing proposal, which says essentially there is no United States. ...
Ezra Klein
But it would make ...
Bernie Sanders
Excuse me ...
Ezra Klein
It would make a lot of global poor richer, wouldn't it?
Bernie Sanders
It would make everybody in America poorer you're doing away with the concept of a nation state, and I don't think there's any country in the world that believes in that. If you believe in a nation state or in a country called the United States or UK or Denmark or any other country, you have an obligation in my view to do everything we can to help poor people. What right-wing people in this country would love is an open-border policy. Bring in all kinds of people, work for $2 or $3 an hour, that would be great for them. I don't believe in that. I think we have to raise wages in this country, I think we have to do everything we can to create millions of jobs.
You know what youth unemployment is in the United States of America today? If you're a white high school graduate, it's 33 percent, Hispanic 36 percent, African American 51 percent. You think we should open the borders and bring in a lot of low-wage workers, or do you think maybe we should try to get jobs for those kids?
I think from a moral responsibility we've got to work with the rest of the industrialized world to address the problems of international poverty, but you don't do that by making people in this country even poorer.
I guess Bernie is all about solving global poverty, so long as you keep those brown people on their side of the border, because we have this thing call "a nation state"? See? America First, but with a progressive sounding spin that Cornel West, Glenn Greenwald and Susan Sarandon would love!
Here is the thing. The truth is right there in the open. If Bernie's 2007 efforts to torpedo immigration reform did not clue you in, then I guess his own words in 2015 won't matter as well.

(28,473 posts)Don't get me wrong, Bernie at times has some good ideas and all but in the end he has refused to join the Democratic party and he made the decision to go back to being an independent that will caucus with our guys once he lost to Hillary.
As for myself I am hoping for something like a Biden/Beto ticket but in the end I will support whomever wins and I refuse to trash talk a fellow member of the party just because I might favor one over another.
Why? Because what matters is standing together to defeat Trump and the rest of the Repugnants before they do more harm to this country.

(1,107 posts)Step aside old man, I supported you but your time has past. Time for all of us old men and women to step aside, let younger people take the lead, and assume our proper positions as elders, advisors, and mentors.
We could have listened to Jimmy Carter, we could have tightened our belts, cut down on consumption, become energy independent but we didn't. We have left the generations behind us with a world on the edge of disaster for humanity. Only right that younger men and women should have control over how to change direction and move to a sustainable, just global community.
Don't do this old man, you can't help us by taking this action, but you most certainly can do harm.

I believe he is a big part of why the Dem party has seemingly shifted left.
