Blizzard dumps 6 to 10 inches of snow across the Omaha metro area

Initial snowfall reports, after a blizzard moved east out of Nebraska late Saturday, indicated that 6 to 10 inches of new snow had fallen in the Omaha metro area.

Some of the snow totals reported to the National Weather Service as the storm was still winding down included 6 inches at Blair; 6.5 inches northwest of Glenwood, Iowa; 7 inches at Schuyler; 8 inches south of Bennington; 8.8 inches northeast of Chalco; 9.5 inches southwest of Offutt Air Force Base and also at a location northeast of Gretna.

Two to 3-foot drifts also were reported.

Dozens of flights at Eppley Airfield were canceled because of the weather, and a nearly 150-mile stretch of Interstate 80 remained closed late Saturday because of weather conditions and multiple collisions, including several large pileups.

east, I believe. Upstate New York is on alert for high winds from this afternoon until Monday afternoon.

We’re about an hour away from the front passing in Western New York and creating 70-75 mile per hour gusts with sustained winds in the 50-65 mile per hour range for a period of nearly eighteen hours.

We’re prepared as we can be at this point.

that our trips to Buffalo in 2019 haven't been when the worst weather is taking place.

Last night it was raining. That makes for treacherous. roads fer sure.

It's a snowstorm.

7. The difference between a blizzard and a snowstorm is

the strength of the wind (over a certain amount of time), not the amount of snow.

Even though I lived in Northern Ontario in the 80's and I remember "snow squalls"

11. Yeah, but they should take into account the normal wind speed on the Plains.

Like a reverse wind chill.

4. My brother in MI said they are getting wind gusts as high as 70mph that is forcasted to last

until Monday morning, and under a blizzard warning to. Not good.

13. We only got 3.5 inches in Des Moines but the wind was howling last night.

The snow is hard as bricks from the wind.
