UK leader holds last-ditch Brexit talks with EU before vote

LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister Theresa May scrambled to win last-minute changes from the European Union to her Brexit deal Monday, a day before a crucial vote in Britain’s Parliament that could derail the country’s withdrawal from the EU — and cost May her job.

May flew by Royal Air Force jet to Strasbourg, France, for talks with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, seeking a way to get reluctant British legislators to back a deal that they resoundingly rejected in January.

The House of Commons is due to hold a second vote on the plan Tuesday, but there are few signs either British lawmakers or EU leaders are prepared to make big shifts to stave off another defeat.

The EU is unwilling to reopen an agreement it spent a year and a half negotiating, while British legislators remain split over whether to leave the bloc and, if so, on what terms.

... If Tuesday’s vote goes ahead and May's deal passes, the UK will leave the EU under the terms of the deal on 29 March. However, if as expected it is rejected, MPs will vote on whether the UK should leave without a deal.

If that vote sees them reject a no-deal Brexit they are then due to vote on whether to request a delay to Brexit from the EU...

because it'd be clear she's powerless and clueless, and makes promises to Parliament she has no intention of keeping. I suspect a few Remainer Tories might defect if she were to try such a thing. And I wonder if the DUP could, with hand on heart, say she's competent enough to help Northern Ireland.

like the Cheshire Cat, both at Great Britain's house divided and the United States' Trump fiasco. He's played both of them masterfully, and two of the world's great democracies are in constant turmoil because of his devious intrusions. I absolutely hate the son-of-a-bitch.
