Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Ellis resigns after allegations of sexually assaulting an incapacitated woman

A Pennsylvania state representative resigned on Monday, days after a woman made a complaint to the state's Republican caucus alleging that he sexually assaulted her in 2015 when she was blacked out.
"It is with immense gratitude to the sacrifices made by my family, the support of my constituents, and the friendship of my colleagues that I have concluded that it is in the best interest of my family, the residents of the 11th House district, and my own health that I resign from the General Assembly," State Rep. Brian Ellis wrote in his resignation letter submitted on Monday.
Ellis' resignation came after House Republicans in January called on him to step down when the Dauphin County district attorney began to investigate allegations that Ellis had sex with a woman without her consent in October 2015, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"It truly has been a new day for survivors," the woman's lawyer, Christine Wechsler told NBC News on Tuesday. "This is an acknowledgment of the credibility of the allegation."

(1 post)I am very glad that this woman will probably get justice. It is very difficult to prove the cases which also happen to men and boys and girls as well. In many controlled environments, especially where they also control the phones and listen to the calls, rapes go on morning noon and night all year long. Most of the time they make you sign a binding arbitration agreement with a non disclosure agreement. If they even are informed about an upcoming arbitration hearing most cannot afford a lawyer anyway. The case is decided by an arbitrator who is hired by the law firm representing the company. Binding arbitration is not based on the law and it has nothing to do with the law. They just kind of make it up as they go along. You can either like it or not because there is nothing you can do about it and no way to appeal the decision. After it is over you cannot talk about it even if you got raped again figuratively or literally during the hearing. The Constitution of the United States and every law ever written are no longer relevant. It would be nice if the democrats could trick Donald Trump into signing a binding arbitration agreement. If it is good enough treatment for everybody else why is it not good enough for him?
DU editors- Please don't shoot the messenger and I have kept well hidden the identity of the facility. They are still free to rape men, women and children with impunity.

(17,595 posts)It sounds like you or someone you know has direct experience with this. I am sorry for what these victims go through and the powerlessness trap they are placed in by these arbitration agreements.
What you posted is fine for DU, IMO. There are rules here, but I don't see where you broke any of them.
I hope you find this an informative and useful place to hang out. Welcome aboard!

(17,595 posts)Rape can be many things. Statutory, for example, or a "misunderstanding" that the sex was consensual. (I know, yeah right, but bear with me here.)
This puts it right up front that he took advantage of someone who was incapable of resisting.

(15,273 posts)saying that Ellis should resign. This isn't how they usually operate which makes me think the victim is known to, linked to or liked by state Rs.
