Trump to skip WHCA dinner, will host rally instead
Source: Politico
President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will once again forgo the White House Correspondents Association's annual dinner, and will instead host a rally on the night of the event.
"Because the dinner is so boring and so negative, that we're going to hold a very positive rally instead," Trump told reporters on Friday ahead of his trip to Calexico, Calif.
Trump hasn't attended the dinner, once an annual event for the president, since taking office. In 2017, no one from the White House attended the dinner. Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and others from the administration attended the 2018 event.
The WHCA late last year announced that presidential historian and author Ron Chernow would be this year's speaker, breaking from the tradition of hosting a comedian who typically skewers the president and others in Washington. Trump was famously the subject of several jokes from comedian Seth Meyers at the 2011 dinner, which he attended.

(95 posts)He needs a hit of adoration, his addiction. Other than the people that worship him; his cult. He has no desire to hear from any other Americans. He can't take criticism. Have you ever in your lifetime seen such a powerful man so small so weak and needy? Garbage mouth!

Hilarious, even by Trump standards.
I hope some MSM station carries it with a caption on the bottom of the screen saying "Trump's 'very positive' rally" while he is yelling hateful nonsense to the cheers of his fans.

Then bring back a comedian to scorch Trump. You avoid the event, you pay the price.
And, let it go loooooong. That will get back to him.

(95 posts)Stevie Wonder wrote this song about Richard Nixon. Someone here on DU told me that. I always liked this song. I often thought it resembles a lot of people we meet in passing or maybe work with. But boy it just fits Trump to a T. T for big orange turd.

(14,178 posts)Ever since Michelle Wolfe they no doubt felt pressure from Republicans who knew there was just way too much material gathered over the year that any comedian worth a grain of salt would have a field day on Trump. And by extension the R party.
So they've gone one step further from actually apologizing for a comedian, for their free speech, to now outright ostracizing comedians from the event.
Shame on them. I wish Samantha Bee and/or other comedians would host their own dinner.
