Covington teenager sues NBC for $275M, lawyer says
Source: The Hill
An attorney representing Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann said Wednesday that he filed a $275 million defamation lawsuit against NBC Universal on Sandmann's behalf.
Today, @LLinWood and I filed a $275,000,000 lawsuit against NBCUniversal on behalf of Nicholas Sandmann. The facts of the suit show the anti-Trump narrative NBC pushed so hard, attorney Todd V. McMurtry wrote in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.
The tweet included a link to the 179-page complaint filed by McMurtry and L. Lin Wood, another attorney representing Sandmann, that accused the network of publishing false and defamatory accusation against Sandmann in its coverage of him earlier this year.

In the lawsuit filed Wednesday, the complaint accuses NBC Universal of attacking Sandmann in its coverage by relying heavily on biased and unreliable sources without conducting any reasonable investigation of the circumstances surrounding the January 18 incident.

You don't even get $275 million for a wrongful death suit.

(51,567 posts)Maybe they need it to get him into a two bit college. Considering his behavior so far they are going to need more than that to find a place that will take a bribe for that moron.

Feeling bigly hurt, someone must pay! But US $275M for 'hurt feelings'? doubt it, somehow!

(6,543 posts)One against the Washington post for $250 million and another against CNN for $275 million. Add those three law suits together and he and his family are on their way to turning his crappy behavior into three quarters of a billion dollars. Hope they are stopped dead in their tracks. Despicable human beings that they are.

Did NBC report on the story? YES
Did they know or should they have known that the story might be false? NO
Did they publish the story with malice, knowing the story was false? NO
Do Sandmann's attorney know 'Freedom of the Press' and liable law? Doesn't sound like it.

(51,512 posts)Just because it tums out there were weird political barkers on the Mall (when aren't there?) yelling nasty stuff at the kids beforehand does not obviate what the kids did and what the media reported they did: Sandmann stood in the Native American man's path, smirking mere inches from the man's face, and Sandmann's fellow students surrounded the man, making derisive "Indian War Chants" and doing the "Tomahawk Chop" at the man with their arms.
So the reports that these kids were disrespectful and racist towards this Native American man are absolutely true. They are on video doing this stuff.

Since the target of a frivolous lawsuit can sue for attorneys fees, Id find a top-tier and ultra expensive litigator to go after him.

I suspect that the intent is to get media to stop reporting things Dear Leader and his followers do. tRumpers will be able to harrass normal people and no matter how many bystanders record it, corporate media will stop airing it.

(1,119 posts)these lawsuits would be considered so blatantly frivolous that they would be expeditiously dismissed. Unfortunately, we are no longer living in "normal times" with the courts, especially on the federal level, being stacked with federalist hacks. Unless they receive relief in a lower court or settlements, the conservative groups promoting and enabling his lawsuits will contest this all the way to the SCOTUS where they anticipate favorable treatment.
