Trump Administration Makes Offshore-Drilling Safety Rules Friendlier to Industry

Source: WSJ

WASHINGTON—Offshore oil drillers will have a freer hand in meeting federal safety requirements under new rules being released today by the Interior Department. The rules will affect the “well control rule” adopted by the Obama administration after the deadly 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill. With the revisions, officials say, the safety standards imposed by that rule will be maintained but drillers will have more flexibility in meeting them.

Changes include measures that widen drillers’ choices in selecting safety-technology systems and lift restrictions that required them to hire only pre-approved safety inspectors, according to a four-page summary of the changes viewed by The Wall Street Journal... The revisions are the result of a two-year effort to revise the original well-control rule adopted after the Deepwater Horizon explosion, in which 11 people were killed. The rule imposed tougher standards on equipment designed to keep control of a well, governing everything from the use of blowout preventers and the system that failed in the Deepwater Horizon spill, to the amount of pressure drillers must maintain to avoid accidents.

The offshore oil industry, however, objected that the measures were in some cases too costly and restrictive. The revisions are intended to focus on results, Mr. Angelle said, giving drillers more leeway to pursue their own solutions and innovate... The approach reflects a shift in White House policy under President Trump, an advocate of boosting domestic oil production. He brought in Mr. Angelle, a Louisiana politician, as a top safety regulator after a career helping the oil industry, including fighting a federal moratorium on production after the Deepwater Horizon blowout.

.... drill rigs didn't have to spend the money on emergency kill switches that stopped the oil at the
well head. They said it saved the drillers $500,000 per well by getting rid of unneeded government
regulations.

over 17 billion to date, and it would have cost BP 1.5 billion to place a blowout preventer on the well head, saving the taxpayers, the fish, shrimp and water around that region around 15 billion............................and this is how to bankrupt society and make us pay for negligence and then place the blame on us because of some half baked plan of BS....................with and executive order, that zippy the criminal can whip out his black magic marker box and produce a pen, for his tiny fingers to grasp...................and have that shit eating grin on his face, signing his name to letter head to continue his shit show ............................. ..........................and then hand the oil lackey lobbyist in the Interior department running the show a fucking pen, that will be auctioned off to pay for his crimes later on ..........................go fucking figure...................................... .

Quote:

Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT), who chairs the House Natural Resources Committee, said the order “puts our country’s ocean policy back on the right track.”

Yepper, "it puts the ocean policy back on the right track"........................not quite Rob, can I call you Rob.......................do you know how to do math............................I really don't think so, but you can sit in chair and make money off the industry and make $174,000.00 a year being a fraud, just like your "guy" sitting in the "white house" he bankrupts everything..........................

BP should have been broken up and sold off.....................as junk........................
