Denver first in U.S. to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms

Psilocybin possession would remain illegal but would become polices lowest law-enforcement priority
Denver is poised to become the first city in the nation to effectively decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms.
After trailing in results postings Tuesday night and early Wednesday, final unofficial results just posted showed a reversal of fortune with Initiative 301 set to pass narrowly with 50.6 percent of the vote. The total stands at 89,320 votes in favor and 87,341 against, a margin of 1,979.
While efforts are afoot to get psilocybin-related measures on the ballot in Oregon and California in 2020, Denver hosted the first-ever U.S. popular vote on the matter, according to organizers. An earlier effort in California last year failed to qualify for the ballot.

(3,433 posts)I would never use them again because of my drug addiction but they were always fun.

(51,582 posts)I hate the taste of "shrooms" and they are too expensive for my budget.

(3,764 posts)My boyfriend would take them and simmer them and then strain the juice out and mix it with Hawaiian Punch Concentrate and it didn't taste so bad if you chugged it.
I liked it better than LSD because I couldn't go to sleep on LSD for about 12 hours but with Scrooms the trip was over in about 4 hours or so.

(51,582 posts)that makes it more economical too. I would take 1/4 tab and clean my house in college. My roommates loved it. I cleaned dirt that wasn't even visible to the naked eye. I heard that there was strychnine in it that gave it the added "zip".

(3,764 posts)Since we went and picked our own the mushrooms were more economical. But since I didn't do the identification and don't really want to go schloshing through cow pastures I haven't done them in years.

(51,582 posts)They are really expensive compared to their weed, etc. I wouldn't mind that much but nothing happened when I ate it...NOTHING! I was so disappointed.

(4,575 posts)stance in with it and there were boycotts. This was a while ago and obviously things have swung back in the other direction but I don't know that it ever quite recovered. Seriously though the last thing we need here is an influx of high people. We already have so many.

(629 posts)And thinking of someone driving while on them is a very scary thought. You get seriously fucked up on them, as bad as LSD. This is not a good move by Denver.
As a side note, mushrooms weren't expensive at all. We just dove to the country and picked them out of the cowshit.

(29,322 posts)Like you said they are not hard to get at all (it is for me as I never done them I heard they are really good mushrooms in Washington that grows near dead tree bark but so do a lot of other mushrooms so hard to know what you're getting.)

I believe in the decriminalization of all drugs for personal use. Treat addiction like a medical problem which it is.

(8,745 posts)on the road to cognitive liberty. The plant and fungi kingdoms offer astoundingly powerful and effective medicines. Ayahuasca, San Pedro Cacti, Iboga, and others effectively and rapidly can help with depression, anxiety, end of life fear, drug and alcohol addiction, PTSD, etc. And not just palliative during the effects of the plant, but curative long after the chemicals in the plant have worn off.
Not to mention the possibilities of deep spiritual experiences and knowledge of self.

(11,443 posts)I would vote against it and I am pretty progressive. Not the same as pot but they can try.
My husband said its too hard to regulate, he used it when he was younger said you can take 5 pieces same size and will have a different effect each time.

(29,322 posts)I think it is a normal position rather than progressive or conservative to decriminalize personal drug use.
