Police seize over a thousand guns, piles of ammunition from Los Angeles home
Source: ABC News
"I had never seen so many weapons in my career of 31 years," said LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez. "That's such a big arsenal in a residence like this, in this type of neighborhood. It's astounding."
Holmby Hills is bordered by the Beverly Hills and Bel Air neighborhoods and is home to the late Aaron Spelling's massive $85 million mansion and the Playboy Mansion.
Officials removed all of the guns -- hundreds of rifles, semiautomatics, handguns and even antique Civil War-era guns -- and piled them up outside the man's home. Officials spent the entire afternoon cataloging the humongous stash of firearms.
Ramirez called the cache of weapons "beyond comprehension" in a press conference Wednesday. He said the large house was cluttered with piles of guns and ammunition spread throughout different rooms.

(13,582 posts)more than one, sometime quite a few. That's why the threat of a second Civil War is bullshit. Some unemployed drunk in a soldier costume won't have anywhere near as many allies as he thinks, unless those guys are all willing to give away some of their guns.

(13,582 posts)their money on one. Same with most of my hunter buddies. Some do, and there are now more than there used to be, but still, most only own hunting rifles, shotguns and maybe a hand gun or two. I don't hunt but own a handgun, mostly because I am sometimes in areas where some of the wildlife might think I'm food.

That doesn't sound like some obsessed collector, but like someone with mental illness.
*Ahhh, he was selling them illegally. Which leads to wonder what kind of folks he's selling to. I mean, the guy clearly would have enough money to open a legitimate store if he wanted to.

(7,142 posts)I guess he was selling them illegally which was probably no different than what gun shows do.
If the cops find a MAGA hat he will just get a fine.

(57,080 posts)My son and a friend of his since the cub scouts got an apartment together after they were discharged from the service. The friend shot himself with my son's shotgun. After the police finished their investigation, they called to tell my son he could come and pick up the gun. My son told them to melt it down.
About six months later ATF called to ask my son where his shotgun was. It had been used in some sort of crime and they wanted to know how it got in the hands of the suspect/s.
The South Miami police had sold the gun at a public auction.
In the pictures I saw multiple Thompson sun machine guns, a pile of AR-15's, M-4's, AK-47's. some SK-47's and all sorts of high powered hunting rifles. If cops'll sell a garden variety shot gun, they'll be selling this haul to "collectors". There's a solid million dollars in that pile.

Washington: A Bel Air mansion where more than 1000 guns were discovered by police belonged to the former mistress of an heir to the Getty oil fortune.
The arsenal was found in a $US7 million ($9.9 million) home owned by Cynthia Beck, who had a long affair, and three children, with Gordon Getty.
Mr Getty, 85, son of the late oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, was once the richest man in America and is currently worth an estimated $US2 billion.
In a 4am raid, police found assault weapons, Browning machine guns, rifles, and Civil War era pistols. They arrested Girard Damien Saenz, 57, who was at the mansion, and is listed in public records as a general building contractor.
