US targets $300B of Chinese goods for new tariff hikes

Source: AP

BEIJING (AP) — U.S. officials listed $300 billion more of Chinese goods for possible tariff hikes while Beijing vowed Tuesday to "fight to the finish" in an escalating trade battle that is fueling fears about damage to global economic growth.

The U.S. Trade Representative's Office issued its target list after Beijing announced tariff hikes Monday on $60 billion of American goods in their spiraling dispute over Chinese technology ambitions and other irritants. Chinese authorities were reacting to President Donald Trump's surprise decision last week to impose punitive duties on $200 billion of imports from China.

"China will fight to the finish," said a foreign ministry spokesman, Geng Shuang.

"We have the determination and capacity to safeguard our interests," Geng said. "China's countermeasures have shown our determination to safeguard the multilateral trade system."

I still believe this is the orange assholes way of getting back a jeff bezos.

he would rather burn down the house just to stoke his fucking up sociopathic ego and not let jeff bezos get away with him being the richest man in the world.

he knows much of the things that amazon sells are items from china, he knows this will force amazon to raise prices and lose money.

I really think the orange asshole is really that petty of an asshole.

we all know he doesn't give a shit about anyone in this nation other than himself. he's a pretty simple person who has zero depth. and he's willing to do anything and everything to exact his fucked up form of revenge.

it screws Wal-Mart and many other retailers more. It screws over companies who make stuff with Chinese-made parts, and farmers who sell produce and meat to China. And of course it screws the working class people in America who buy things based on lowest price and can't afford higher priced American-made goods.

I just think that as stupid as the orange asshole is, he is far more small-minded that people realize.

Especially niche designers and engineering types who publish board games, small household items, prosthetics, and specialty clothing for people with disabilities or who have odd body features or sizes that preclude buying off the rack for nice or business clothing that will look professional.
China has an entire small parts manufacturing infrastructure system based on robotics and automation that US businesses would take a good decade to replicate -and that's if those businesses wanted to make that investment in the first place. Which they won't, for a tariff that might only last a week, or a month, or maybe three, untill all his Mar-a-Corruption cronies who just made a crap-load shorting the Market are tired of the servants complaining.

4. Is trump doing this for putin, for his revenge, and to hurt us?

Could trump be instigating this to eventually stiff them with our debt, and like he's used in his businesses over and over again. Create chaos , conflict, divisions, and use excuses to stiff others with. He's done that many times to contractors and bankers. If trump is in debt for billions to putin and his cronies he could be pressured because he couldn't lift the major sanctions still on them. Is putin behind trying to hurt Hillary too?

has been simmering for years. If China dumps treasuries in a bigly way, interest rates will skyrocket.

I think we need to put China in check, but without a real coalition, The Orange Oaf is in over his head.
