GOP Rep. Amash becomes first Republican to call for Trump's impeachment
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)Michigan GOP Rep. Justin Amash said Saturday he had concluded President Donald Trump committed "impeachable conduct" and accused Attorney General William Barr of intentionally misleading the public. Amash's comments recommending Congress pursue obstruction of justice charges against Trump were the first instance of a sitting Republican in Congress calling for Trump's impeachment. Amash said on Saturday that he made his conclusions "only after having read Mueller's redacted report carefully and completely, having read or watched pertinent statements and testimony, and having discussed this matter with my staff, who thoroughly reviewed materials and provided me with further analysis." "Our system of checks and balances relies on each branch's jealously guarding its powers and upholding its duties under our Constitution," Amash tweeted. "When loyalty to a political party or to an individual trumps loyalty to the Constitution, the Rule of Law -- the foundation of liberty -- crumbles." Read more: https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/18/politics/justin-amash-trump-impeachable-conduct/index.html In other news, a cold snap has been reported in Hell and they are expecting a couple inches of snow. Less flippantly, one can hope that now that Amash has said it, a few other GOP Congresscritters will feel a strange sensation in their backs and rediscover their spines. Probably not terribly likely, unfortunately.

1. There goes the funding for his next campaign.
When his chief of staff tells him this, he'll walk it back.

2. The wall is breaking?
Hot damn! In my lifetime I could see the first removal of a president from office, the first woman in the Moon, and humanity getting to Mars!
Awesome! |

10. His Seat is Safe...
He's in West Michigan. They will elect him again, not matter what Trump does.

12. He could be little worried
His district went to Obama in 2008 and 2012 though it did go with Trump in 2016 and he won with just over 54% of the vote in 2018.
In my Congressional District (3rd Minnesota) my former representative won in 2016 with 56.7% of the vote - this in a district that went to Obama both times and to Clinton in 2016. In 2018 his opponent got 55.6% and we waved goodbye to Erik Paulsen. Paulsen had gotten by for years on the myth that he was a moderate (in a purple district). It could be that what happended to Paulsen and other Republicans in 2018 might be causing Amash some concern - now that he knows people are paying attention and the Democratic turnout should be large in 2020. |

9. Amash has ALWAYS had a Right-Independent lean....
Not surprised he is the first to step on this. It's a start.

13. It took some guts to speak up given how the rest of the GOP kisses 45's ass.
Especially when you consider how rabid and unhinged 45's kooky cultists are. I wonder how many death threats he's gotten for daring to speak out against Dolt 45? I wonder if Lindsey Graham has gotten the sweats and the vapors? I don't have to wonder whether or not 45's blood pressure spiked...

18. I just read his wikipedia page on his political stances
He is consistent with what he believes in. Occasionally he seems to take the correct side of an issue, although with different reasoning than I suspect most of us do.

11. It's one GOP rep from Mich. certainly not a watershed in the republican congress.

14. Baby steps. If he nudges others into speaking up, so much the better.
Up to now, any criticism of 45 from the right has been fairly tepid. The fact that a GOP Congressman is outright calling for impeachment is pretty surprising, in my opinion.

15. Amash is more Libertarian than Republican
Maybe some other Libertarians will follow his lead, but I doubt any Republicans will. Nonetheless, we can hope.

Before long, they’ll be fighting over who wanted to impeach him first.

19. Glad to see a winger concerned
about our liberties..stumpy and its minions are working hard at stifling them...
"Our system of checks and balances relies on each branch's jealously guarding its powers and upholding its duties under our Constitution," Amash tweeted. "When loyalty to a political party or to an individual trumps loyalty to the Constitution, the Rule of Law -- the foundation of liberty -- crumbles."
