Two Groups That Helped Dems Win Back the House Are Joining Forces for 2020

Source: Daily Beast

Two grassroots progressive organizations formed after President Trump’s inauguration are joining forces in advance of the 2020 election.

Swing Left, which had been primarily committed in the last cycle to helping Democrats take back a majority in the House of Representatives, will bring Flippable, an outfit devoted to turning state legislatures blue, under its umbrella. The merged entity will continue to go by Swing Left.

The goal of the merger is to create a unified strategy and better equip volunteers and donors to help in the upcoming presidential race as well as down-ballot contests. Combined, the organizations raised some $13 million in 2018 in addition to having a community of more than a million of those volunteers and donors.

The groups’ founders think the combination of Flippable’s expertise in the states and Swing Left’s huge network will complement each other and ensure progressive voters do not get overwhelmed with too many outlets for activism and contributions.

Flippable had one of the strongest records among the State-Leg oriented IE groups in 2018.

If the Dems don't win the Senate back in 2020, then winning the Presidency is not enough.

For far too long the Dems have been preoccupied with winning/holding/flipping Congress and the White House while all but ignoring state legislatures.

We need to start flipping statehouse seats like flapjacks, especially in the 2020 election. This allows us to control the redistricting process.

The problem is that we (Dems) tend to think in the here and now while Republicans are quite content to play the long game. They'll quietly take over school boards and county commissions and state boards. Then they move on to statehouses.

the public wants to see something "get done," that's the only way it will happen. Period.
