MacKenzie Bezos pledges half her fortune to charity after Amazon divorce
Source: Reuters
(Reuters) - MacKenzie Bezos, the former wife of Amazon.com Inc Chief Executive Jeff Bezos, pledged on Tuesday to give away half her fortune to charity, following a movement founded by billionaires Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates. Bezos, whose former husband is the world’s richest man, was one of 19 people on Tuesday to sign the “Giving Pledge,” a campaign announced in 2010 by Berkshire Hathaway Inc’s Buffett and Microsoft Corp co-founder Bill Gates. It calls for the super-rich to give away more than half their fortunes during their lifetimes or in their wills. “In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share,” MacKenzie Bezos said in a statement. “My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care.” The fortune of Jeff Bezos was estimated by Forbes magazine to be $131 billion this year. Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos divorced earlier this year. 6. I always suspected that people said they were libertarian
because they were too embarrassed to admit they voted GOP.

10. How about a load of what's left used to help elect people
Who give a SHIT about all of us that aren't billionaires, multi millionaires or a millionaire?? If this NEO CON destruction continues we don't have to worry about SS running out of money,it will be in the dumpster long before that happens, same with Medicare.

11. Its great an all that she is doing this. She doesn't have to.
But isn't that what is wrong with this unfettered capitalism? Where there is no limit to ones accumulation of wealth?
This is the Republican wet dream. Where all social spending is stopped. And churches, and billionaires, will fill the void out of the goodness of their hearts. Of course only to the charities that they decide are worthy enough, Christian enough. Or in the case of billionaires, the ones that would directly affect their own loved ones. Where only a few pet charities, the "sexy" ones, get the funding. Things like SS and unemployment insurance, medicare, public schools, etc.. struggle to survive. |

13. Except she JUST signed this pledge
So calling it a "con" is a little premature. And cynical.
