NBCUniversal: Abortion Laws in Georgia and Elsewhere Would 'Strongly Impact' Film Sites
Source: Variety
Comcasts NBCUniversal has joined Netflix, Disney and WarnerMedia in making a statement on the new abortion laws threatening to take hold in Georgia and elsewhere.
We fully expect that the heartbeat bills and similar laws in various states will face serious legal challenges and will not go into effect while the process proceeds in court, said the company in a statement. If any of these laws are upheld, it would strongly impact our decision-making on where we produce our content in the future.
Georgias recently signed abortion law has become a focal point in particular for Hollywood, as the state is a major site for productions outside of California and New York, with nearly 40 projects currently in production there.
Since Netflix became the first major player to take a stance on the issue, telling Variety exclusively that it would rethink [its] entire investment in Georgia if the new law took hold, other studios have begun to step forward with statements of their own.

(28,856 posts)I don't think these viewing outlets will do much of anything
really, since their real stance is corporate first always.

(13,421 posts)It's completely FINE for companies to pick and choose where they go, just as it's fine for me to choose not to buy from Chik Fil A or Jimmy John's. For the time being (said in quiet ominous tones) we can still do that.
By that same token, it's FINE by me if Chik Fil A pulls out of Illinois or if Jimmy John's moves to Florida (corporate offices for Jimmy John's currently are at least partially located here in Illinois.)
YMMV.

(1,402 posts)So let's hit them where they really live, their pocketbook! My full support to every business entity that takes the stand that these cold hearted states do not deserve their business. I spit in their general direction.

(12,165 posts)Its like a microcosm of the U.S. I hate the tin-star hucksterism from counties with a few hundred people who get an inordinate number of state representatives.
I would move away from Georgia if I could. But aging parents are keeping me here.
Keep boycotting. The state needs to Understand what it stands to lose. Im disappointed by Delta and other big companies that arent putting rubber to the road over this hateful, anti-women abortion bill.
