President Trump on Friday acknowledged Pride Month and praised the "outstanding contributions" of LGBT Americans.
In a pair of tweets, Trump expressed solidarity with people living in countries that criminalize and punish members of the LGBT community, prompting criticism from lawmakers and advocates who pointed to his own administration's policies.

Pride Month is celebrated in June and recognizes the contributions of LGBTQ people to society. The Trump administration has undertaken an effort to end the criminalization of homosexuality and the president has spoken about helping the LGBT community. But the administration has generally drawn rebukes from organizations and advocates over its rollback of LGBTQ rights and protections toward transgender people in particular.
The Department of Health and Human Services released a proposal last week rolling back health care protections for transgender people. The regulation would scrap ObamaCare's definition of "sex discrimination" to remove protections for gender identity.

(3,166 posts)Occasionally, one his staffers gets ahold of his Twitter account and tweets out something coherent and understandable, and we can see right away that Trump had nothing to do with it. This isn't his style at all, so he's probably not even aware of the tweet.

(57,393 posts)Politico reports:
The Trump administration plans to launch a new panel to offer fresh thinking on international human rights, a move some activists fear is aimed at narrowing protections for women and members of the LGBT community.
The new body, to be called the Commission on Unalienable Rights, will advise Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, according to a notice the State Department quietly published Thursday on the Federal Register.
The Commission will provide fresh thinking about human rights discourse where such discourse has departed from our nations founding principles of natural law and natural rights, states the notice, which is dated May 22.
The State Departments media contact for the new commission is former Fox News contributor Kiron Skinner. As many of you surely know, natural law is often cited by hate groups in legal briefs opposing LGBT rights.

Donald this morning my son passed away from a marijuana overdose. His last words were, "tell President Trump thank you for saving this country from Obama". I'm crying as I type this. God bless you.

Why, I don't know.
