Russia Could Unleash Fake Videos During Election, Schiff Says

WASHINGTON — The Russian government is likely to try to influence the 2020 presidential election, not through the release of stolen emails and other documents but through faked videos, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee said on Tuesday.

The United States has become adept at quickly identifying the perpetrators of so-called hacking and dumping operations that result in the release of potentially damaging material, increasing the risk for Moscow that Washington will respond, said Representative Adam B. Schiff, the California Democrat who leads the committee.

“The Russians may feel if they are too overt about it, the risk of blowback is simply too great,” Mr. Schiff said at the Council on Foreign Relations. “But there are other ways to have potentially even bigger impact than hacking and dumping.”

Mr. Schiff said he was particularly worried about the effect of falsified videos, known as deep fakes. Such videos could be easily introduced into social media, where they will spread rapidly.

1. Hopefully, most of these types of videos will be ID'ed quickly and easy to spot, after all, with...

all of the video footage today of all of our candidates, the chances of something damaging out there is next to zero. The fakes will be easy to spot and ID, since if a candidate is no way like what the doctored video seems to portray, then it has zero impact.

The only danger is riling up the rump supporters but that already been done with the piece of trash that rump is, in playing to this group of people.

But the other side of the coin is just as frightening. That actual REAL videos, of Trump spewing some racist nonsense etc... will be proclaimed "deep state deep fakes". And they will get to eat their cake too. Because the message will be lapped up but they'll get away without paying for it.

17. Deep Fakes require a source video, so I believe they could be forensically detected.

Likely, though, not until after any damage has been done.

What worries me is this will allow people to retroactively have a Deep Fake of their own damaging video created as cover. If a celebrity has a sex tape, they can say "look there's a fake one so how do you know any of them are real?" Sort of how Trump salts the field by calling everything fake news.

We're basically going to get to the Orwellian point where having video of a crime is inadmissible; "Reject the evidence of your eyes and ears."

The military intelligence then said no signs of any collusion.

And yes, absolutely nothing happened here. Except our own politicians f*cking it all up.
The two and a half newly made radical right parties will eradicate themselves.
The old right wing party here (yes, we now have 13 official parties) loves Putin too much, and will lose half of their votes, it seems - voting is tomorrow.

Putin must have known, that we do not need him here.
We are very much able to spoil it all without help from others.

UPDATE. Denmark will change from a conservative/farmers government to a socialdemocratic. A few from a newly made radical right party will be in Parliament, but with no power. Doesn't help much, since also the Socialdemocrats will do bad things to foreigners...
