(10,901 posts)US Customs and Border Protection officials have recently highlighted the cases of groups of African migrants apprehended in Texas, noting that groups that arrived recently were primarily made up of families from the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola ( https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/local-media-release/del-rio-sector-arrests-immigrants-africa-rise ).
..."The number of migrants being apprehended at the border from other continents has already doubled compared to last year," she says.
(Other continents meaning other than the Americas).
And instead of men coming in alone, its more and more families and unaccompanied women and children.
Notably from hot climate places ... I won't call them climate refugees, but undoubtedly changing climate conditions are contributing.

(9,958 posts)Corporate titans and government leaders have created a world where far too much of the wealth goes to them and far too little goes to the other. Resistance to climate change is all about greed. Oil is the liquid gold that is funding wars and environmental damage, thus creating the need for people to move or die or starve.
I see occasional news stories about the wealth of the 1%, but I never see stories about how they got to be the 1%the tax policies they got changed through money for elections, the offshoring of jobs with no penalties, the unlimited right to fund lobbyists and PACs, the establishment of groups like ALEC and the Heritage Foundation whose purpose is to keep the power and the money in the hands of white males.
As we see every day, an ignorant electorate is easily led by charlatans and fails to see the effects on their own future.

(58,785 posts)overlords is not responsible. Blame We the People, and bring blame home where it belongs. Changing the economic system wouldn't change human nature. It's US.
This is a democracy, and people who feel like US substantially outnumber our RW knuckledraggers. So just WHO's been allowing those amorphous evil "theys" and "thems" to be in power except some of US? This never had to be, but it's been going on for years. And every single person who hasn't been voting every 2 years to keep people like them from getting power has been contributing to the death of this latest child among many over the years.
This is our nation, and this is always our responsibility no matter what systems we choose to have.
