NBC reported on Sunday that the firings came after someone leaked polls that indicated Trump is losing to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in 11 battleground states

“A separate person close to the Trump re-election team told NBC News Saturday that the campaign will be cutting ties with some of its pollsters in response to the information leaks, although the person did not elaborate as to which pollsters would be let go,” the report said.................................

1. Pollsters project only from whom they have contacted. There are a number of Repugs who refuse to answer phones unless a family member starts leaving a message. But every November, especially in Presidential years, they show up at the polls (or vote absentee). In Virginia, unless there is a corresponding surge from uncontacted Democrats/disaffected Repugs (as happened in the governor's race in 2017), this boosts the Repug share of the turnout by about 5 percentage points. Add that to the "margin of error".

2. ANYTHING can happen in the next 16 months (apart from the Senate turning Democratic). The following month, who knows?
