Four active-duty Dallas police officers have been placed on administrative leave and 21 others were under internal investigation after the officers were believed to have made racist and violent comments on their Facebook profiles.

The move by the Dallas Police Department came one month after a cache of social media posts from police officers in eight U.S. jurisdictions was made public by The Plain View Project, which had scoured the Facebook profiles of law enforcement officers nationwide over the past two years to compile a database of potentially inflammatory or otherwise objectionable content.

After the database was first made public, the Dallas Police Department released a statement saying that it was "thoroughly investigating the names and posts" of officers flagged by the database.

We take these matters seriously and we want to assure the community that we will not tolerate racism, bigotry or hatred of any kind in our organization," the statement concluded. -MORE...

There is a reason that cops, in the South anyway, are paid shit wages and they activity discourage college grads.

Intelligent, educated people ask questions. They don’t follow orders.

I can’t speak for other regions of the country.

This came to me in a small, very nice bar several years ago. A young man in his early 20’s was there celebrating his graduation from ‘cop’ school and soon hiring by the local police force. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt. He was not that bright and some of his tattoos were, let’s say, not very politically correct. But he was big and husky.

That did it for me. Of course, I would not have a problem if he pulled me over. White, upper middle class male. He would call me sir like he did that night. Others...not so much.

On edit I must add: since that time our police force got into some trouble for exactly what you would expect. Corrupt cops. And our new chief is an African American so hopefully things are better than my un-edited post indicated.

I first met her 15 years ago, when she was just joining the police force in our very small town.

She's doing a heck of a job, I have not heard of any problems b/c of her orientation.

When I was hired by a retail company I was told that any social media postings I might make were to be subject to guidelines.

Public officials should be held to the highest standards.
