FBI opens domestic terror investigation into the El Paso shooting
From CNN's Josh Campbell
A source familiar with the investigative process says the FBI has opened a domestic terrorism investigation into the mass shooting in El Paso to be worked concurrent to the state investigation, with Texas authorities taking the lead.
The FBI, the source indicated, is surging resources from neighboring satellite offices in Texas and assets are on standby to assist should the state request.

(19,236 posts)Any gun fed from a magazine can accept magazines of any capacity. I've seen 20-round magazines for bolt-action deer rifles, for example, but it would be ridiculous to outlaw such firearms. On the flip side, they make magazines for AR's and AK's that only hold 5 rounds.
Did you mean to say we should ban all magazines that hold more than 9 rounds?

(6,110 posts)1. The gun has to be capable of holding large capacity magazines
2. Gun owner would violate law if found in possession of larger than 9 bullet magazine.
3. Gun has to be semi-automatic...for example my gun does not require bolt action to fire more bullets.

(7,538 posts)so I gotta call bullshit on the FBI's characterization. Federal terrorism statutes are very narrow in scope. The maniac Coast Guard officer planning to kill members of Congress couldn't be charged with terrorism the law is so narrow in scope. They are quite correct to label it 'domestic terrorism', but there ain't no such law. The existing laws were written to deal with foreign groups and nation-states, not American citizens. One might even postulate that they were written in this narrow manner to prevent the law from being used against white Americans.
*Edit...just now read that the FBI is even walking back calling it a hate crime! Saw this coming...

(271 posts)For one reason you are not going to get it and for another reason, there are many people with these rifles that will not back you. Keep it all on Trump for now. Make him the bad guy, not the NRA. Shove it down his throat. We are going to need the presidency to get any action on gun control.
