Activists interrupt Pelosi award ceremony in San Francisco, demand she take action to impeach Trump
Source: San Francisco Chronicle
Activists interrupted a ceremony in a San Francisco hotel where House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was being honored Wednesday evening and demanded that she spearhead impeachment proceedings to remove President Trump from the White House.
They stood on dining chairs, unfurled black tapestries with the phrase, We cant wait and chanted Which side are you on, Pelosi? Impeach! inside the grand ballroom of the InterContinental San Francisco hotel where the San Francisco Democratic Party was honoring Pelosi with a lifetime achievement award.
Impeach Trump now! activists, who had initially been quietly seated in the audience, shouted. One woman, Thais Marques, screamed into the packed room that her people are being killed by white supremacists across the country. She demanded action from Pelosi. Another activist said, We are your constituents!
Pelosi supporters tried to drown out the activists by chanting, Let her speak and waving signs of Pelosis face superimposed onto Rosie the Riveters likeness. Others opted to say hush in deep, hoarse voices, while others screamed, Sit down!

(18,252 posts)Who and what does "progressive cell phone company" Credo Mobile represent?
What did Credo mobile phone activists do in 2016 to stop Trump by helping to elect the Democratic candidate in the general election?
Their super pac raised millions of dollars in 2012 and 2014. Why did they raise and spend so little money in 2016?
Why were activists so inactive during the 2016 general election campaign?
Why hat tip a handful of folks who did little in 2016, but who are now making entitled and counterproductive demands in a way that amplifies anti-Pelosi talking points that chiefly serve Trump and his allies? These people don't speak for me.

Why show up at an awards dinner to troll a Democratic Speaker of the House?
Where were they in 2016 when they could have tried to help prevent the damage before it happened?
I feel sorry for them. Imagine being so cluelessly privileged that you think you're entitled to make demands about the result three years after sitting out a presidential election.
the time is ripe

An inquiry wouldn't hurt, or would it? (Now I will let my brain run its course through THAT circular roller coaster thought process one more time.)
I thought Nadler said we are already in the impeachment inquiry phase.
TRUE CONFESSIONS: I am confused. Every damn day since January of 2017.
More coffee needed.
Nadler is low key, but its moving. With Pelosi's blessing.
People want a star-spangled big announcement, and this has mostly flown under the radar.

(6,353 posts)I know exactly what I would do in her shoes.
I also know that my certainty comes from knowing what I think doesn't matter.
It's what she thinks based on her experience and ability to see the whole board.
In the end, she may do what I think she should or she may not...either way, I have no doubt that she'll be making that decision with the best intentions for the country's well being.
I don't envy her and I hope for our sakes she gets it right.
That's where the circular roller coaster thought process always ends for me, too. Trust Nancy. Nancy smart.

(51,550 posts)Why is that so hard to understand? They want Pelosi to TRY. These Democratic activists are not stupid. They know we don't have the votes in the Senate, yet. They want Trump's crimes exposed via a robust, televised impeachment inquiry, not the silent one we appear to be pursuing.
They want Trump to go down in history as the 4th president to be impeached by the House. No president has ever been removed by the Senate. The lack of votes in the Senate never stopped prior impeachment proceedings. It shouldn't now. Impeachment in the House damages a president's ability to pursue his agenda. And it will fire up our base. Why wouldn't we want to hamper Trump from hurting the country, while firing up our base to vote in 2020? Seems like a win-win.
Besides, impeachment is the right thing to do. Trump is evil. We should not countenance evil, and that is what it looks like we're doing by not having formal televised impeachment investigation hearings.

(92,138 posts)Pelosi doesnt impeach, ignoring if the votes are there, then she will be responsible for Trump not being removed from office, ignoring if the Senate has the votes to candidates convict, and also ignoring that I even if that was to occur, Pence would become President
A lot of ignoring going on
Probably a good cathartic experience

(68,552 posts)gain. Trump will not be convicted in the Senate and removed. And worst case this gives him another four years...not a good idea...we are year away from an election beat the crap out of him...humiliate him...but there is no gain in impeachment ...it is a landmine. I would also say with a majority of moderates in the house, the votes are not there.
SunSeeker
(51,550 posts)It puts Democrats and 1 independent in the House on the record as upholding the law, and puts Trump in the history books as only the 4th president ever impeached by the House.
The votes would immediately be there in the House if Pelosi came out in favor of impeachment.
Not impeaching is the landmine. If we don't impeach Trump, we lose all moral authority. He will argue that if what he he was so wrong, Democrats would have impeached him. He will use the House Dems failure to impeach as an admission that everything he did was legal. That would be ruinous for Dems and would depress Dem turnout.

That is the concern.
NOW, having said that, there was a researcher on MSNBC the other day, woman, who is releasing a big study that shows the 2018 WAVE was NOT due to cons voting for dems but non voters voting for the first time for dems.
I think Nancy is going to look at this data and I am hoping when she does she will see that whether the TRAITORS in the GOP in the Senate do the patriotic thing or not, the act of impeaching this vile filthy traitor, will bring people out in droves to vote for our team.

My daughter's friend knew one of the outdoor protestors, and that protestor said she wasn't sure exactly why she was there, and didn't know what the event was, but she'd gotten an alert so turned out.

(4 posts)For all the reasons that SunSeeker brilliantly stated in his or her post a public impeachment inquiry is a no brainer. Not only is it what the Constitution clearly demands be done it is the one strategy that has the best chance of winning back the White House. First of all, the official inquiry will allow for documents and testimonies to be more easily obtained and at a much more expedient rate. Since most U.S. citizens have not read the Mueller Report this will give people a chance to finally see the crimes and misdemeanors committed by this administration. Secondly, it will put Trump into a defensive posture for the entire campaign season.
In May of 1973 19% of the American population wanted Nixon removed from office. In August of 1974 that number was at 57%. It is no coincidence that these numbers changed following publicly televised Watergate hearings.
If this president's actions don't warrant at least an impeachment inquiry then our democracy is truly dead!
