Fox News anchor rips into Trump: 'We don't work for you'
Source: USA Today
WASHINGTON -- Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto chastised President Donald Trump on Thursday after the Trump tweeted that "Fox isn't working for us anymore" in a series of tweets in which he also said the network of "promoting the Democrats through their DNC Communications Director, spewing out whatever she wanted with zero pushback by anchor, @SandraSmithFox."
Over the past couple of weeks, Trump has increasingly blasted Fox News' coverage, being especially critical of anchor Shepard Smith and analyst Juan Williams, calling them hopeless and clueless."
Cavuto began the segment by saying its weird that the president is getting sick of the network, because he believes Trump gets pretty fair coverage at Fox.
Cavuto curtly responded, First of all, Mr. President, we dont work for you. I dont work for you. My job is to cover you, not fawn over you or rip you, just report on you. Call balls and strikes on you. My job, Mr. President, our job here, is to keep the scores, not settle scores.

(3,546 posts)Good line.
Its encouraging that there are lines even Fox wont cross. Or perhaps this is a sign that Trumps actions and words are offending even the wealthy at this point, which would be even better. With any luck, Trump will double down on the attacks. There may still be hope for American democracy.

(13,480 posts)Ita amazing how things change when money starts going away. So far, I think ad revenue was down only 8% after Tucker Carlsons ridiculous claims about white supremacy. Most people in this country do not want to see a race war, and perhaps Foxs higher ups are thinking they need to pull back a bit. Hannity and other Trump sycophants will not, but its possible that at least some Fox viewers can see through their constant praise of a man they know is doing a poor job, especially in farm country where many are Fox viewers.

(7,633 posts)I think he started as a financial analyst on CNBC, then moved to Fox as a seasoned pro when Fox News opened the doors on Fox Business News.
Financial reporting is not straight propaganda, just how they think the propaganda makes people moneyso its a little more tame.
But Cavuto has been a shill all along, and only now that its costing the company money does he care. Before, when Hannity would kiss Trumps ass nightly, he was silent.
He isnt principled, hes needs money.

(13,538 posts)And its not opinion, its fact. Thats why trump gets pissed
I see him often. My main contractor has fox on ALL the time. I have many hours under my belt & I've seen Cavuto be critical on many occasions. As you say, its financial based, so hes never gotten into any of trumps other BS.
And boy do trumps followers HATE him for doing it. He reads the emails regularly. And they all sound like FOOLS

(55,143 posts)Fox News is hedging its bets on Trump's downfall. Now that it actually is possible, they are denying they shilled all along so they can protect their franchise in a more moderate or even progressive political climate.
This shift is all about business for them. And if Trump surges, watch how their sea changes.
It may even be they are moderating to attract more viewers so they can move hard right at election time and change more minds.
Too cynical? Please.

And, hey, Cavuto: Be sure to let Hannity know that it's not his job to fawn over trump. Get back to us with his reaction, OK?

fox has to pretend to be 'fair and balanced' and not 'too' racist - it was just the visual icing on the lie turd pie of talk radio and a lot easier for putin to influence

(7,229 posts)The Fox audience depends on an older conservative demographic. That'll sustain you for a while but if you can't rope in younger viewers, you're toast.

(7,811 posts)Nice try but for years you have been working to distort the true by covering up for Trump and his band of grifters.
If you think you are only calling balls and strikes you are as delusional as Trump.
