Lewandowski refuses to answer questions at dramatic House Judiciary impeachment hearing
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, appearing Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee in the panel's first official "impeachment hearing," refused to answer key questions about potential obstruction by Trump and repeatedly argued with Democrats.
Lewandowski took a combative tone from the start, slamming committee Democrats, criticizing Obama-era intelligence officials, praising Trump's successful presidential campaign and jabbing at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He denied collusion with Russia -- even though he was never formally accused of that -- but avoided commenting on the obstruction issue.
"To the best of my recollection, I don't recall ever having any conversations with foreign entities, let alone any who were offering help to manipulate the outcome of the election," Lewandowski said in his opening statement. "As I have said publicly many times, anyone who attempted to illegally impact the outcome of the election should spend the rest of their life in jail."
The dramatic partisan split was on full display. Democrats traded barbs with Lewandowski and said he "chickened out" from following Trump's questionable orders. Republicans hailed Lewandowski's prowess as manager for Trump's long-shot presidential bid.

(162 posts)that people like Lewandowski and the GOP know they can get by with this sort of behavior. Trump has the DOJ on his side, so there's nothing short of impeachment the Dems can do.

(15,642 posts)books (since we all know this DOJ wont enforce it)? Can it still be enforced in 2021 with a Dem in the WH?
MontanaMama
(23,307 posts)but he should at least be charged. Just because the DOJ may not follow through (and I agree they may not - Lewandwoski probably knows this) but ignoring the crime is inexcusable, imo.

(493 posts)and using the power they've been given to compel testimony, including immediate jailing for those that refuse to talk, nothing is going to change. They need to take the gloves off. NOW.
Trump's White House is once again interfering with subpoenas..If the House allows drumpf to obstruct the House's own investigation without impeaching him, the House will allow him to do anything.
Can the most dishonest and corrupt president in American history get re-elected?
Not if House Democrats have the courage to impeach him instead of just talking about his crimes.
GOP will do nothing to help the American people to get out from under this unstable person

(1,121 posts)and I'm beyond pissed. The CONS reguritated their talking points, were well prepared, had an effective strategy, and executed it. The Democratic members of the committee looked like deer in the headlights - they seemed to be totally unprepared and confused for what the CONS and Lewandowski had planned for this hearing. They got pummeled. Until the Dems realize that the CONS don't respect the rule of law (along with decency, honesty, truth, material facts, and civility), they are going to continue to be subjected to this type of behavior by the CONS. Bullies don't respect the timid. Sometimes you have to jump in the mud with the pig to wrestle him into submission and the Dems just don't seem to want to get dirty. Lewandowski should have been held in contempt and detained in custody until he agreed to cooperate. The Twitler and his merry band of traitors made a mockery of this proceeding. Disgusting!

(5,586 posts)And Barr would probably have something to say about that. Trump could just pardon him anyway, since it would have to be a federal offense.
I guess they could throw him in the House clink for a few hours.

(5,586 posts)Due process is still a thing, and we dont want 1 political party able to suppress or jail their opponents (or anyone for that matter). That would be used against us in a New York minute.

(2,146 posts)That when these clods start stalling, not answering, obstructing, etc. simply have two cops stand behind them. Then stop proceedings and have a vote to determine if this is obstruction, lying or perjury. And if the vote is yes, then have the cops haul him straight off to jail.
