Trump Threatens EPA Action Against San Francisco

LOS ANGELES — President Donald Trump threatened to unleash the Environmental Protection Agency on San Francisco Wednesday after a California visit during which he blamed the homelessness crisis on “liberal” policies.

Trump accused the city of allowing a tremendous amount of waste, including needles, to go through storm drains into the ocean.

“It’s a terrible situation that’s in Los Angeles and in San Francisco,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One as he returned to Washington. “And we’re going to be giving San Francisco — they’re in total violation — we’re going to be giving them a notice very soon.”

“They have to clean it up. We can’t have our cities going to hell,” he said.

In a statement, Mayor London Breed called Trump’s remarks “ridiculous” and said storm drain debris is filtered out at city wastewater treatment plants so that none flows “into the bay or ocean.” -More...

Courts have limited what cities can do to clean up encampments in places like like San Francisco and LA. Recently the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to join an effort to get the U.S. Supreme Court to review a decision that restricts efforts to bar homeless people from sleeping on sidewalks in Western states.

The board voted 3-2 to file a motion supporting Boise, Idaho, in efforts to overturn a ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that said it was unconstitutional to arrest or otherwise sanction homeless people who sleep on sidewalks when there aren’t enough shelter beds.

Something's gotta be done. If the city government isn't effectively doing anything about the [human feces] and the state government of California isn't doing anything about the [human feces], should not the federal government step in and do something?
Some of the pictures I've seen, the videos, even related oral descriptions; I shudder to imagine the smell.

Sure they should do something depending on what that something is. The Trump junta is not about extending civil rights. Just the opposite, in fact.

"The Feds have a history of being corrupt".
FIFY Heck, all levels of those previously mentioned have that history.
But regardless of that encouraging thought, I fear rights will go out the window when a plague hits is a bigger concern. Public sanitation is something that's best not to fuck with. On one side, human feces can give you cholera. On the other side, people eventually get pissed off when they have to deal with too much shit, and the cleanup can be spectacularly horrible. I rememeber from a documentary that one of the original complaints against the MOVE folks was that they just crapped out in their backyard, out in the open, didn't even bother to dig a latrine or any other sanitary methods of disposal. And they ended up getting bombed to death.
Who benefits most from this situation though? I don't understand how the city government thought this would benefit them. Can someone explain?

Tell all the California Homeless that D.C. has opened homeless centers that offer three hot meals a day, and that booz and drugs are much cheaper and more available in the nations capitol. Then buy them a bus ticket to D.C. LOL

Some effective compassionate actions certainly need to be taken about homelessness ... voting in a far more progressive executive and legislative government will be s great start.

It happens. But this post seems to be both insinuating that the homeless are all drug addicts, and that these people are a smelly problem looking for a place to get dumped.

I dunno. Maybe I'm off base, but I just kind of find the idea of using the lure of cheap drugs and booze to dump am undesired population on a political enemy to be a bad look.

Again, maybe I'm over sensitive, but it kind of seems like the two groups it's still ok to dump on in leftist circles are the homeless and sex workers.

I see your point, and to a point you are right. Sadly there is a segment of these poor individuals that are have indeed turned to drugs and alcohol to numb themselves against their feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.

If we spent a millionth of the defense budget on this problem, we could help most of these unfortunate souls out of their tail spins.

With the economy becoming more and more difficult, and with the Republican "Powers to Be" crushing down on the middle and lower classes, I predict a lot more of what we are talking about. Remember reading about "hoover-villes?

These so called "Republicans" are truly a bunch of mean, nasty, psychopath, Fascist tyrants.........

Deplorable45 is trying to have it both ways. He blames environmental protection for the lack of affordable housing. At the same time he blames the homeless for generating too much pollution.

As with the disabled veterans in front of Trump Tower, Trump sees the homeless as a blight. Invoking the EPA as a weapon of social cleansing is fascism at is most virulent.

First, God Emperor Puppet Sharpie threatened to ship all the detained immigrants to San Francisco, to "punish" it for its Sanctuary City policy with a massive influx of people who had no homes.

That didn't work out so well for Sharpie.

So now he's threatening to abuse federal agencies to punish San Francisco for pointing and laughing at his worthless ass.

(Oh, and he just had Ben Carson tell Newsom to go f*** himself when Newsom requested federal aid to...(checks notes)...combat homelessness.)

It's almost as if the whole circus is some sort of distraction.
