(16,829 posts)Its up to Sanders to decide how, when, and whether he discloses it. We don't have a RIGHT to know the personal health information of someone who is running for public office.

(7,808 posts)HIPAA laws mean that they may not disclose a person's health information. That makes me think it isn't real.

(16,829 posts)It may be a good idea for them to reveal it, but we do not have a right to know their health information.

(3,764 posts)Not all heart attack are the same. They can be mild and not even detected till later, or they can be fatal and everywhere in between. I'm sure at least a few of us on DU have had a heart attack and don't even know it.

(59,498 posts)personally. That was the reason John Kerry gave when asked by a reporter at the press conference he gave explaining he was going to have surgery for cancer as to why he did not say he was diagnosed with cancer earlier when a report asked him if why he looked bad. That was earlier in the timeline for 2004, but no one is voting yet and no one was hurt by him waiting 3 days -- when it was known that he had stents put in.
Sanders likely wanted to wait till he was out of the hospital - heading back to join his family.
Also did you blame HRC and her staff when as the nominee she did not explain that he had pneumonia until several hours after she collapsed in NYC?

(12,492 posts)Just a prediction, but a lot of folks will take this as him not being able to hold up in office. Even though now that hes had stents put in, he's probably in better shape than he's been in for a few years. But to voters, perception is reality.

(13,421 posts)People are never "comfortable" when there is some sort of transformation in the executive branch. As an added level of distress, a lot of people hear heart attack and they see it as the start of the short road to death. That is not entirely an accurate view, but in a race as critical--and competitive--as this one, it's going to carry an impact on the outcome.
I wish Bernie well, but I'm not optimistic about him winning this primary after this, and that isn't based on his age.

(4,459 posts)I would be a bit concerned. Lets say you had a liberal version of Dick Cheney running, with an early history of heart disease, would you be concerned, I know I would be.
