Trump thought Turkey was bluffing and would never actually invade Syria, report says
Source: Business Insider
Trump "had been calling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's bluff" for more than two years, the news site said, citing six sources with knowledge of the matter.
According to Axios, in previous conversations, Trump would tell Erdogan that the Turkish leader would have to "own whatever mess ensued" in the region and warned of the US presence there, and Erdogan would back down on his threats.

If he thought Turkey was bluffing, I wonder what he thinks about being impeached by the House. Is it bluffing too?

(53,764 posts)allowed, and he probably doesn't read them so he was probably unaware of the recent summit in the Middle East with Rhouhani, Erdogan and Putin where they decided what to do in northern Syria against the Kurds. It was literally decided then the fate of the Kurds and trump was told later what his instructions should be about the American troops there. I'm guessing the recent phone call he had with Erdogan, during which I'm sure he was reminded of what a nice hotel he had in Istanbul and it would be a shame if something happened to it, and btw, Putin and I want you to pull the American troops out of northern Syria. Any questions?

(870 posts)Turkey was massing troops at the border. That doesn't happen overnight and the trump administration definitely knew about it. That phone call from Erdogan was just the "ok trump, I'm ready, you can pull out your troops now" call.

It would suggest adequate forethought and planning to do so, and I see no evidence of either.

fact is, whether he knew this would happen or not, he paved the way for it and proved that he's just way too bad at being a president to be allowed to stay in office.
we don't need to know if he's evil or inept or stupid or greedy or easily manipulated or impulsive or whatever.
he's *bad* at it. he needs to be removed from office before he creates even more disasters.
