Trump calls Cummings 'highly respected political leader' after congressman's death

Source: Baltimore Sun

President Donald Trump took to Twitter Thursday to send his “warmest condolences” to the family and friends of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, who died in the early morning amid some longstanding health problems.

“I got to see first hand the strength, passion and wisdom of this highly respected political leader,” Trump said in the tweet. “His work and voice on so many fronts will be very hard, if not impossible, to replace!”

Cummings became a national figure in 2019 as chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, which is among three panels leading the impeachment inquiry of Trump.

With Democrats earning the House majority following the 2018 election, Cummings had the ability as chairman to demand documents related to Trump’s personal finances and policies, as well as possible abuses at federal agencies in the Trump administration.

And I bet he was very upset about it because he wanted to write it, and say how unfair Cummings had been to him, blah, blah, blah.

I thought that was awkward to say the least. Condolences aren’t”warm”. They are “sincere” or “heartfelt” but “warm” makes it sound almost like a happy occasion. But then Donnie didn’t write this and his minion must not have known the difference, either.

Reads like those totally expressionless emotionless speeches he struggles to read off paper/teleprompter. And if any one doubts that, all they have to do is put this side by side next to that letter to Erdogan. Even when writing a "formal" official letter to another President, he's incapable of writing that competently.

I guarantee it -- he won't be able to help himself. He knows that his white supremacy base wants to hear it. And he can't stand someone else getting the spotlight. The only question is -- how nasty will it be?
