Democrats kill GOP effort to censure Rep. Schiff over impeachment inquiry

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — Republicans failed to force a vote on the House floor on Monday evening on a resolution that would have censured House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., for his handling of the impeachment inquiry.

Democrats, who control the chamber, killed the GOP effort after House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., offered a motion to table the measure. The motion was adopted in a 218-185 vote.

Schiff tweeted minutes after the vote, "It will be said of House Republicans, When they found they lacked the courage to confront the most dangerous and unethical president in American history, They consoled themselves by attacking those who did."

Introduced by Arizona Republican Andy Biggs, who chairs the conservative House Freedom Caucus, the resolution alleged that Schiff "manufactured a false retelling" of the phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine's leader, instead of quoting from the record of the conversation released by the White House. Schiff made the remarks at a Sept. 26 hearing on a whistleblower complaint about the phone call.

Original article and headline -

House rejects GOP resolution to censure Schiff for how he has handled the impeachment inquiry of Trump and the Mueller probe

BREAKING: The House voted largely along party lines to table the measure sponsored by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and backed by GOP leadership.

The resolution took issue with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff's remarks at a Sept. 26 hearing. Schiff (D-Calif.) embellished the transcript of the July phone call in which President Trump pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the Bidens.

Schiff later said his remarks were intended as a parody and that Trump and others who have criticized him should have recognized that.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

and media. Its real goal is to taint the chief impeachment investigator from the House Intel Committee to keep the House and Senate Repub vote in line during impeachment and trial.

We know the rollout:
-- hit the biggest target.
-- Spread all over media the big "email" style incrimination fit every day.
-- Call him "schitt" and "shifty schiff" and all the other smearing crap.
-- Soon MF45 has mobs chanting "lock him up" at rallies and the convention.

And to think: the CIA FINALLY came out today and said Trey Gowdy made the whole fucking thing up! https://www.democraticunderground.com/100212607171
And no one caught it. Everyone in media rode with it. Millions were spent on it.

Now they're trying the same patterns of attack on, first, Biden, then, Schiff.

So it CAN amount to more than the nothing it is.

We can't ignore the next attempted rollout of lies and fake "investigations" that waste oxygen and millions of taxpayer money. To dismiss any congressional moves against Dems, when these jackals know how to make "something out of nothing," is to tell them we don't know how to stop their repeat of 2016.

Never underestimate this pack of jackals.

The day that irony died
By
Dana Milbank
Columnist

Beginning today, Post Opinions columnist Dana Milbank is providing regular commentary on the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

It is my sad duty to report that, after a long and painful illness, irony is dead.

Irony was already on life support last week when Trump brothers Don Jr. and Eric, who owe everything they have to family money and favoritism, spoke out against nepotism — in the Biden family.

Surrounded by loving admirers, irony finally succumbed at 6:22 p.m. Monday, when Republicans attempted to force a vote in the House censuring Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), and claiming the leader of the impeachment inquiry “misled the American people.”

So, after defending President Trump through 13,435 false or misleading statements as of last week (by The Post Fact Checker’s tally), Republicans are now thoroughly outraged because they think somebody misrepresented something Trump said.

Pelosi Statement on House Republicans’ Latest Attack on Chairman Adam Schiff
October 21, 2019
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on House Republicans’ attempt to censure Chairman Adam Schiff:

“Chairman Schiff is a great American patriot. Our country is extremely well-served by his serious, smart and strategic leadership to protect our elections, national security and democracy – which sadly stands in stark contrast to Republicans in the Congress who cover up the truth, look the other way when the President invites foreign governments to interfere in our elections and vote against legislation to secure the ballot from foreign attacks.

“What the Republicans fear most is the truth. The President betrayed the oath of office, our national security and the integrity of our elections, and the GOP has not even tried to deny the facts. Instead, Republicans stage confusion, undermine the Constitution and attack the person of whom the President is most afraid.

“The American people want the truth. The House will proceed with our impeachment inquiry to find the facts and expose the truth, guided by our Constitution and the facts. This is about patriotism, not politics or partisanship.”
