Top State official details chaos after Yovanovitch ouster to impeachment investigators
Source: Politico
A top State Department official told House impeachment investigators on Saturday about his role in supervising the chaotic fallout from President Donald Trumps ouster of his ambassador to Ukraine earlier this year, including his stymied efforts to issue a statement in support of the besieged diplomat, according to a person familiar with the officials testimony.
Philip T. Reeker, the acting assistant secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs, assumed his role in March, just weeks before Trump forced out Marie Yovanovitch, his top diplomat in Kyiv. Reeker had to deal with the aftermath of the presidents decision, which disturbed senior American diplomats who viewed the move as politically motivated.
Reeker testified that he wanted to release a proactive statement in support of Yovanovitch, the person said, adding that Reeker heard that David Hale, the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, said no such statement would be issued.
Reeker, a veteran foreign service officer and a former ambassador himself, became the latest State Department official to defy the Trump administration, which has sought to block or limit testimony to what the White House calls an illegitimate impeachment inquiry. He appeared Saturday under subpoena after the State Department sought to block his testimony, according to an official working on the impeachment inquiry.

(4,007 posts)keeping his master happy and at bay for the time being. Just think, even if he knows this will go nowhere, with 'show' hearings and lots of hoopla as he's jetting about the world, very unusual for an AG btw, he's apparently amp'ing up a very shallow investigation.
My questions are:
-is his family along on these trips? If so, did he reimburse the Federal government for their expenses?
-can we subpoena his travel records and conversations? Can the NSA or CIA give us any recordings of his conversations, especially call-backs to the Orange-haired Genius #1?
-can we determine who he met with in each foreign intelligence agencies
-was Ghouliani on board for each meeting?
We want to know!
