Russia: Trump's Baghdadi Victory Lap Is Nothing But 'Propaganda'
Source: The Daily Beast
The Russian Defense Ministry also disputed claims that Russia provided access to U.S. air units entering airspace it controls.
At the White House Sunday morning, President Trump profusely thanked Russia for its alleged involvement in the killing of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Trump said: "[The Russians] were very cooperative, they really were good... Russia treated us great. They opened up, we had to fly over certain Russia areas, Russia-held areas. Russia was great."
Russia didnt seem to see it the same way. The Russian Defense Ministrys spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, refuted President Trumps statement, stating in part: The Russian Defense Ministry has no reliable information about U.S. servicemen conducting an operation for yet another elimination of the former Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in the Turkish-controlled part of the Idlib de-escalation zone.
The Russian Defense Ministry also disputed President Trumps claim that Russia provided access to U.S. air units entering the airspace over the Idlib de-escalation zone during that mission in Syria. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to provide a comment about President Trumps announcement, directing everyone to General Konashenkovs statement.

(3,335 posts)for Putin. So Putin is pulling back so no one will know that he and Trump are Besties, like the rest of us are so dumb we can't read the handwriting on the wall. Actually, Trump is not Putin's Bestie, he's Putin's fool and Putin's playing him for the fool that he is. After all, Putin is the one who is the ex KGB Agent who has spent his entire adult life cultivating unwitting fools like Trump. Trump is the tool who so desperately needs Putin's approval and affection, since he's definitely not his equal.
Lock him up.

(18,635 posts)They probably know as I do that it won't be long before Trump parades around with al Baghdadi's head on a stake, provoking a revenge attack. Putin has nothing to gain aligning himself with an idiot.

The thing about disinformation that's really good is you don't know where the truth begins and stops, and where the lies begin and stop. Notice that they're different things: Everything can be true but some bits can be omitted, and that can be useful disinformation.
Russia wouldn't like it to be known, domestically and internationally, in some quarters at least, that they cooperated with either the Kurds or the Americans. So the denial meets their goals.
At the same time, this sows dissent in the US. Another of their goals.
Just having people quote Russian/Putin sources as fact when it's reported differently elsewhere in the US shows that some DUers believe Putin more than Trump. (This is a common observation. In many instances, Russia's believed more than American sources, but only when it helps fight something in domestic politics. True, not true, unverifiable, doesn't matter--if it supports the struggle then it must be true. It's been the case since the 1920s. "We do not have a famine or concentration camps," and some "activists" in the US would parrot the Party line. "Sputnik", as in the current news service, is ambiguous: It's the name of the Russian satellite; but it's also the word for "fellow-traveller" from the 1920s and '30s, and is targeted at provided current sputniki or fellow travelers useful talking points.)
I figure that the Russians have it sorted that being seen as beloved of Trump makes them less likely to achieve some of their tactical goals. The anti-Russian furor in some sectors is not unlike the anti-Russian red scare. It pays to remember that the red scare wasn't completely devoid of facts--there were spies and people that strongly sympathize--but it went full-blown paranoid at some point.

Is Putin his best pal or not? This is worse than All My Children, trying to keep up with who is and isn't in love this week as opposed to last week. Why all the confusion if they are such close pals?

(9,893 posts)Trump's best pal, but I would seriously doubt that Trump is Putin's. Putin, as far as I understand it, is not an idiot. He's an operative, an operator, and a spy. I'm sure he is quite happy to make use of anyone who is usable and can be of advantage to him, but he isn't going to tie himself to a loose cannon. Trump doesn't play by the rules, even bad guy rules. He's getting very dangerous to everyone.
