Trump, Lifelong New Yorker, Declares Himself a Resident of Florida

Source: New York Times

He came of age in Queens, built Trump Tower, starred in “The Apprentice,” bankrupted his businesses six times, and drew cheering crowds and angry protesters to Fifth Avenue after his election. Through it all, President Trump — rich, bombastic and to many Americans the epitome of a New Yorker — was intertwined with the city he called his lifelong home.

No longer.

In late September, Mr. Trump changed his primary residence from Manhattan to Palm Beach, Fla., according to documents filed with the Palm Beach County Circuit Court. Melania Trump, the first lady, also changed her residence to Palm Beach in an identical document.

Each of the Trumps filed a “declaration of domicile” saying that the Mar-a-Lago Club, Mr. Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, will be their permanent residence.

Remember when HW Bush declared his home in Texas when he didn't own any property and Texas allowed it so that he wouldn't have to pay taxes in the state he was living in........

Doonesbury told all his readers to apply for Texas residency and avoid their state taxes, and his readers sent like 500K in residency applications to the State of Texas.
(they all were turned down, But HW got his residency......)

He has paid very little New York State income tax for at least the five years prior to 2017. He got a tax break for income less than $500,000 those years. so I think this indicates he may plan to sell a big asset, like the Washington DC hotel. He may need the income.

Apparently you can’t have the President and VP registered in the same state. By doing this Trump can now have a running mate from registered in New York. This is hugely significant.

Part of the deal where the Republican National Committee supported Trump was that he had to have "seasoned professionals" in his cabinet. The RNC forced Pence on Trump to 'keep an eye on him'. Every RNC person in Trump's cabinet is now gone, except for Pence.

When Trump picks his next VP, which will probably be from New York, Pence will be out on the street. Without adult supervision, Trump will move into total destruction mode.

That floated the idea that he did it so he could put Princess Ivanka on the ticket as his running mate. Wouldn’t surprise me if he did.
