Trump Has Considered Firing Intelligence Community Inspector General
Source: New York Times
The president blames Michael Atkinson, whom he appointed, for finding the anonymous whistle-blowers complaint on his interactions with Ukraine to be credible.
President Trump has discussed dismissing the intelligence communitys inspector general, Michael Atkinson, because Mr. Atkinson reported a whistle-blowers complaint about Mr. Trumps interactions with Ukraine to Congress after concluding it was credible, according to four people familiar with the discussions.
Mr. Trump first expressed his dismay about Mr. Atkinson around the time the whistle-blowers complaint became public in September. In recent weeks, he has continued to raise with aides the possibility of firing him, one of the people said.
The president has said he does not understand why Mr. Atkinson shared the complaint, which outlined how Mr. Trump asked the Ukrainian president to investigate Mr. Trumps political rivals at the same time he was withholding military aid from the country. He has said he believes Mr. Atkinson, whom he appointed in 2017, has been disloyal, one of the people said.
Mr. Trumps private complaints about Mr. Atkinson have come as he has publicly questioned his integrity and accused him of working with the Democrats to sabotage his presidency.

(18,619 posts)If this doesn't send a message to those with oversight, I read it wrong.
Like if I managed security at WalMart and fired anyone who reported my shoplifting. More stark because a third of the country would be on my side.

(6,150 posts)firing Mr. Atkinson could be viewed as just another impeachable action taken by the President.
Trump has this thing with demanding loyalty to him by those in his government, but he doesn't hold himself up to the same standard.
He has been disloyal to the nation whose laws he swore to uphold, deriding the justice department for its investigations into his affairs, and deriding the judiciary whenever they issue a finding that is unfavorable to him.
He conveniently forgets knowing people as soon as their relationship is detrimental to him.
Lev who? (Lev is now in the process of refreshing Trump's memory)
And so many others who he glad-hands and hugs while having their picture taken with him, only to later deny them 3 times before the FOX news host crows.
He's the kind of guy that gave birth to the phrase, "with friends like these, who needs enemies?"
If he isn't your enemy now, give him a little time and a few unsupportive words, he'll come 'round to it.
