Turkey says it bought Russian S-400s to use them, not put them aside

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey bought S-400 missile defense systems from Russia to use them, not put them aside, the head of the Turkish Defense Industry Directorate said on Saturday, days after talks between President Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump.

In an interview with broadcaster CNN Turk, Ismail Demir said it was not logical for any country to purchase such systems only to put them aside, but added that Turkish and U.S. officials would aim to tackle the issue. He also said that no Russian personnel would come to Turkey to operate the S-400s.

In the meantime, will both the F-35 and S-400 systems be rendered vulnerable to exploitation by the other side?

Status quo ante.

Turkey was a reluctant NATO ally. As it is, with its neo-Ottoman aspirations and it's joy at going back to genocide--something with long roots in the Empire, however people tried to deny it for political and rhetorical ends a decade or two ago--it's a bad fit with NATO.

When you're all "me and those like me must be first, f**k everybody else unless they serve us" it's hard to play nice with others or live up the altruistic tripe ... sorry, hype.

Is he planning a full scale invasion of Iraq or Syria?
Or does he envision a time when he may have to use them against NATO forces?
He certainly doesn't plan to use them against Russia. Putin wouldn't have sold them to him if there was any chance they would be used against Russian military aircraft.
